AC stuck on upper air flow! Avensis 2009.

I have a Toyota Avensis from 2009. I have some problems with the AC unit. It will not switch between climate control modes anymore. It's stuck on upper air flow. Whenever i try to press any other button nothing happens. So at the moment I can't switch so I can defrost the front windshield which it a huge problem!

Does anyone have any experience with this problem?

There are a couple of things you can do.

  1. You can remove the control section, to check the connections and use contact cleaner.
  2. Try self diagnostic procedure - http://www.cardiagnostics.be/-now/Self Diagnose Toyota Corolla ECC-panel.htm This works on a few Toyotas including the Avensis. I have tried it.
  3. Have diagnostics like Techstream check the HVAC system. Like above but using Techstream software plugged into the OBD socket.

I suspect that a new heater control unit may be needed, if none of the above are successful!
