:help:

Hi all,

I have just purchsased the new 2004 Corolla Tsport which I have to say is stunning.

I love the car its fantastic the only problem is when I first start the car and drive off there seems to be a very loud strange crunching noise coming from the drivers side(although you can only hear it from inside the car). It does not affect the drive of the car or anything else but it is concerning me a bit. I have taken the car to my Toyota dealer and they are quizzed also and cant find a prob. Has anyone else experienced such a noise, if so can you help!!!

My Tsport is booked in soon so they can explore the prob but would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks

Jen

Do you know how many times this question has been asked on the forum??! ;)

The dealer didn't warn me about it either, and it seems like most CTS drivers wonder what is

going on. Apparently it is something to do with the traction control mechanism, which calibrates

itself at the start of every trip.

The first couple of times I thought I had run over something or hit a wall ...

Luckily, as another owner has already pointed out, there is an easy work-around. Instead of pulling

away slowly, just rev up a bit and drop the clutch. In the squeal of tyres/smoke you will not hear

the traction control clunk :D :D :D

Cheers

Paul.

If only we all got a pound every time this question was asked,.

Paul T is correct it is the VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) / TRC (Traction Control) finding its bearings, it an automatic calibration procedure that the ECU performs every time the car pulls away from a standing start after it just been started!

No need to take it to your local dealer again, get it out on those Scottish country lanes!

Thanks for putting my mind at rest, I was beginning to think I was jinxed!!! :P

I take it theres nothing that can be done, considering the car is fantastic I guess I can live with it!!

 I'll try that next time.

I think Toyota should tell all dealers about the noise so they can warn all Cts owners. It'd avoid any concern.
