Thought you sold it?

All I know is fitting the 4EFTE is probably less work.

no i didnt sell it, there wasnt enough feedback on the car - so i thought i'd just keep it. As this car is totally mine and i hold no outstanding payments etc.

as for the 4efte, is that engine the same as the renault 5, and the starlet gt - if it is this engine is renound for heating problems, correct me if im wrong. If i do decide to go down the route of fitting the 4e- what is the maximum bhp that can be pushed out of them. Im planning on reaching 200bhp atleast.

also what work is involved with fitting the 4efte for eg. what do i need to buy to get the engine to fit and work in my cynos ?

Thanks

Why would a Renault 5 have a Starlet engine in?

The 4EFTE is basically a smaller version of your 5EFHE engine but with a turbo on it, so theoretically speaking it should fit on the same mounts. If I'm not mistaken you can also fit some of the internals from the 5EFHE engine into the 4EFTE engine to make a 1.5-turbo engine, instead of a 1.3.

As for BHP if you've got the money 300+ is possible.

You can reach 200BHP with the 4EFTE engine pretty easy, and I haven't seen alot of heating related issues with it. You can either do a hybrid combination using a 4EFTE Top half, and a 4AFE or 4AGE bottom half, which would give it alot more power up top when the 1300 runs out of steam. You might just have to do some fabrication in terms of custom mounts to fit the engine in your car.

Or you could easily replace the CT-9A turbo that is in the 4EFTE with something like a Garett T3 Turbo, some bigger injectors, some kind of engine management system, a fuel pressure regulator to increase the fuel intake, bundled with a FMIC and other little components you'd have to use, and you can achieve the 200 mark.

My Sera has had the 4E-FTE engine now for 18 months and 20,000kms. Hasn't missed a beat.

The Starlet Turbo engine was designed to be turbocharged.

The Paseo or Sera basic engine was not meant to be turbocharged, so to get long-term reliability without fragility you need to lower compression ratio and used the stronger Starlet pistons.

I would recommend the 4E-FTE engine, and keep the 5E-FHE engine as a backup or sell it on to recover some of the costs.

Don't know where you have heard that about the reggi 5 having the same engine as the starlet complete :censor:

What Andrew is saying makes the most sense starlet turbo motor is the best option.

The sera engine is a high compression engine, and you can't charge high compression engines that well. The higher the compression the lower the boost can be and you risk knocking of the engine.

So I'd go with the Starlet motor also even if you do away with the small CT9A charger
