Hi there.

Toyoya Auris hybrid estate 1.8L - 2015

150,000 miles ( taxi hgh mileage )

just wondering if anyone had throttle body problems.  My car was driving so slow this morning, and just managed to get to toyota dealership.  The ' check hybrid system ' warning came on.

They quoted me £900 for a new throttle body assembly.  Which i cannot afford.

Looking on youtube, it seems a reativly easy job, using throttle body cleaner.

Has anyone had any experience with cleaning one ?

The dealership just asked for £900 - saying ' wear and tear '

Any advice on a remedy would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks

Lol that’s insane. £900 for something that requires a £9 cleaning spray and removing 10 bolts?! If you are diy person get it sorted yourself, if not just find some good mechanic or garage and ask for throttle body cleaning. It’s super easy, best to be taken out of the intake manifold, no need to disconnect the coolant hoses, just open carefully the valve, spray throttle body cleaner, nothing else, and use clean cloth, microfibre etc wipe clean the carbon buildup. Clean the large opening on the manifold, there will be an oil seating there, put back all together. At this mileage if never done before you will need egr cleaning procedure, which requires a lot of time.

If you don't fancy taking out the TB, you can go the lazy way and wedge the accelerator pedal with a wood/stick, pull the seat forward until its fully open, spray some TB cleaner on a rag and gently wipe. Repeat if required, but don't get impatient and start spraying inside.

Could also be the filter for the hybrid Battery clogged, somewhere under the passenger seat. I am sure one of the Hybrid guys will come along and tell you where exactly that is.
