Brake pedal 2017 auris hybrid sol

Hi folks,

I purchased a 2017 in October and had the catalytic converter stolen 3 weeks later. It took 6 weeks to replace and now it feels like a brand new car again! The only thing is I've noticed that the brake pedal seems higher than the accelerator which I don't remember from the last time. Have others noticed this? I find it very annoying to have to lift my leg for the brake! Anyone any advice? Thanks!

Hi,

I wonder if whilst your car has been off the road, you are now wearing different shoes to before whilst driving it?  Or the seat has been subtly adjusted into a different position by the person who has been repairing it?

I understand what you are describing, and I have adjusted the brake pedal on a car when another driver has complained of the problem you have highlighted. The brake pedal's height is probably adjustable on the Auris, but as this is so extremely safety-related(!), few people would suggest going away from the Toyota adjustment setting that it leaves the factory with, for fear of the consequences if they get the adjustment 'wrong' for an emergency braking situation.

If it is adjustable (I'm fairly certain that this is a 'yes'), then whoever is doing it will have to lie across the door sill on their back, with their head under the dashboard, so as to be able to get the spanners needed onto the pedal mechanism locknuts etc.  It's no fun, to put it mildly!

Also, critically, the locknuts must be done up firmly afterwards, and the brake light switch will have to be checked and adjusted too!

So, I'd check your seat adjustment and shoes first!

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I am not keen to fiddle with the brake pedal as I feel you're just asking for trouble. I don't remember this being an issue for the 3 weeks I previously had the car so I would imagine the seat has been adjusted as you say. I'll just have to play around with the seat until I find the right spot. Thanks again!

Hi, if in doubt for the position of your car brake pedal best to compare with other similar cars, if you have no access you may look onto website that sell cars like auto trader and search for the same model like yours very often they include pictures of the footwell so you can compare with your car. Most likely no difference just feeling for some reason.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. It seems it was just my seating position. It took a lot of fiddling around but I finally found the sweet spot. I hope no one ever adjusts my seat 😂

  • Thanks 1
