Kun26 D4D Limp mode over 3000rpm

2007 Hilux 280xxxkm goes into limp mode when engine is working hard. It occurred on a recent highway trip several times - anytime I went over 140km/h or 3000rpm. It has also occurred when on steep gravel inclines and I assume the engine has revved over 3000rpm. 
it will enter limp move but once I turn the engine off for 5 seconds it resets and drives fine. 
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
