Corolla T-sport Question

Hi guys and gals.

I was wondering if you could all help me out here as I am seriously looking into getting a new Corolla T-Sport to replace my Focus ST170.

I went to my local Toyota dealer the other day and had a test-drive in a 52reg T-Sport. Must admit that I was slightly disapointed with the handling of it compared with my ST170. I know that the new 04 model has had its ride-height lowered and other suspension/steering improvements made to it. My question is does this make much of a difference to the handling and feel of the new car compared with the older version ??

Comparing the test car with my St170, it seemed quite reluctant to turn-in and had quite a bit more body-roll, but it did ride nice and smothered bumps etc well and it did seem to have plenty of grip.

I was really impressed with the build and ride of the car and it went really well, especially in the "Lift".:thumbsup:

The handling should be improved.I haven't test drove the new TSport yet ,but my wifes's 53 reg is lowered by 30mm with TTE springs and it takes corners without any prob. The CTS generally gives a very forgiving ride even without the lowering.I'm not 100% certain, but I think the new CTS is lowered by 20mm.

Cheers

Ant

I am yet to drive a "Face Lift Model" T-Sport but I know there have been a few changes, the steering lock is not as good as the pre face lift models the gain here though for the new model is steering responce it is meant to be a lot shaper.

The cars chassis has been stiffened due to a torsion beam under the bonnet and the cars standard ride hide has been lowered 20mm with the added addition of a body kit this is meant to make the car feel a lot more stabile at high speeds.

Inside in the 04 model you will find a smaller more sporty steering wheel, much more huggy two tone black/red seats, auto dimming rear mirror and aluminium sports pedals.

This will surely add up to a much improved car IMO !

My thoughts though is if the Face Lift 04 model is little to much to spend, try a pre Face Lift model with the TTE (Toyota Team Europe) 30mm lowering springs, it is a much improved drive and would bring it on the same terms as your ST170!

Hope this Helps

Nick
