Well, i enjoy my own car forrum (nissan micra) but i became very annoyed over the last 2 days.

The jist of it is somebody wanted suggestions for a replacement car with the criteria :-

must be jap

practical to fit lugage, wife and kid etc

quick

cheap

I sugested a Carina GTi, then it was slagged off for being a grandads car. i dont think 173bhp qualifies it to be a grandad car really.

I still enjoy the club and will still be faithful to it, but i wanted to join another club to talkabout toyota's as i'ma huge fan eversince we got a carina II 3 years ago.

Hi there just to let you know that I own a CARINA E 2.0 GTi and you can tell whoever told you it was a grandads car that it will keep up with and beat (not that I condone racing) quite a few so called hot hatches :P ,also, I am only 33 and that hardly makes me a grandad. B)

p.s. Hope you like this forum as it is very helpful and you get very good topics to talk about , hope you enjoy your visits to this web site and return on a regular basis. :D

Hi carinaII. So you have a micra. Great little car. So what do you think of the new model. I'm assuming that you have got the older model. The carina GTI will always be a quick car. I like the tail end of the car with the twin exit exhaust pipes. Have a great time on this site and welcome to the club mate. :D

Probably going to make enemies with this comment and can't remember where I heard it (sorry if it was someone on here) but love it and think it's so apt for the new Micra...

Is it just me or does the new Micra look like a pregnant roller skate :P :P :P

Well, i dont like the new micra at all.

I have an E reg one, the first boxy one. Its basicaly the best small car of the era you can get, because there is never any starlets that age for sale.

I love the carina GTi, my dads friedn had one and it was amazing, so smooth and so powerful. By the end however his injesctors had clogged and it hadn't beemn serviced for 2 years, i believe the ECU needs to be regularly checked/set by toyota or something?

Anyway, my next car will either be a Carina TD or GTi depending on insurance, as i'm only 19!!

However, i saw a Carina II CVT TD for sale oncew with air con, which sounds pleasant as i especially like the carina II.

Any, this looks likea good forum, a god bunch of guys, i hope to see people at meets if im allowed to attend, especially Carina GTI's as they rock

On another note, i've had the privalage of goin in some fine Toyotas

Carina II, camry, MK1 MR2, MK1 MR2 Supercharged (jap import), jap import 2.0 celica (155bhp i think?) old shape supra turbo which was absolutly gorgeous, plus the carina GTI obviously

Welcome to the club mate.

I like the Carina.. I hired one for a week and found it to be a very nice car.. which made me like Toyota's as a matter of fact.

you should try and pop along to one of our meets sometime.

Hello CarinaII,

The engine in the Carina Gti is the 3S-GE = same as the equivalent year Celica if remember rightly and the Celica (definitely used to) shared its chassis with the Carina – in fact the Celica started off life as kind of a Carina Coupe

So definitely not a Grandads car.

You would have thought that Micra forum people would be a bit intelligent than give cars sweeping generalisations about their owners – I bet they don't class their cars as granny cars or shopping trolleys? and I'm sure they'd be very offended

Welcome to our club – good to have you here :D

Thats what i would have though, which is one of the reasons i was upset. If they can see a micra for what it is then why can't they see a carina for what it is. a 173bhp family saloon is a serious piece of machine, and i think they are daft to criticese when they haven't been in one. I've been in a fiew, and they are absolutly amazing cars, so smooth and so refined yet so powerful and sporty at the same time. Its a shame the insurance is so high otherwise i might have had one as they are getting quite cheap.

Hi carinaII who are you insured with?? As you should always look about. If you are after your dream motor then you should go for it. I'm currently insured with tescos and they are really cheap for me. Perhaps give them a call and see what they can do for you.
