2008 engine failure

I have a 58plate 1.0l Aygo petrol with air con with middle cylinder failure.

Looking at a 40k, 1l petrol, used unit 40k on it from eBay, doesn't mention air con.

Is this a straight swap? What do I look out for?

Local independent garage asks £300 for job, with me sourcing engine.

Any more details on the engine - price, whether it is a private sale, from a breakers, etc?

The mileage seems OK - checked the MOT history of the car and at its last MOT in February 2020, the recorded mileage was 36,775. I would suggest to float the details past your garage (print off the eBay item) and ask them their opinion.
