Ball Joint Cost?

Recommended Posts

I've just bought a Celica ss2 '95 and would like to do most of the repairs and maintenance myself.

Can anyone tell me how much ball joints are for my Celica 95 ss2?

And is it same as uk model...

Would it be an easy job for me to do as a DIY job or should I get a mechanic to do the job?

Also

Where's the best Import parts specialist in the the Manchester area...

And last of all....

Where can I get a Haynes type handbook from?

Thanks,

Depends which ball joints you mean mate, some are possible by DIY'ers but don't forget they're tapered so if they are suspension related, when they 'break' their seal, you'll get the weight or the weight plus the 'sprung' weight. Always take every precauition, work safe and support everything, bung yr wheel under the car whenever you r working on it then if it falls off the jack, yopu won't get toooooooo squashed and, you'll prevent damage to the bodywork; also you'll have room to get under with a jack. Stering ball joints will result in the need for re-tracking but........... why change them? if they're ok, leave them.

A few peeps have advice in this site re manuals.

ps That wheel under car tip should always be followed by EVERYONE who EVER changes a wheel or has a puncture.

pps. you will need a ball joint breaker, DON'T go smacking the joint with a hammer (sideways on) to 'break' the joint and make sure the rubber boot is in good condition, if dirt gets in, you'll shorten the life and, they have in extreme cases been known to break physically - not good to lose yr steering at speed! but don't be put off, i've only known it happen on a couple of occasions in a long experience (and i said i was only 24yrs old - oh well!)

you will not be able to get a haynes manual for the uk or jap celica they only do one based on the u.s model but i was in contact with haynes loking for one myself and they said that a lot of the car parts are similar to the jap and uk model so it would still be of some use the price is 14.99 sterling

Thanks for the advice on the ball joint and manual...

I've just done the repair this weekend with no problems at all.

I had my CV boot replaced last week and the mechanic said that the shaft to CV joint splines had been damaged previously.

I might need to get it replaced or repaired sometime in the near future.

The mechanic doesn't seem keen to work on imports because of parts compatability.

I am prepared to do the repair myself!

So does anyone know if it's the same as the UK spec and where can I get the parts from?
