In what circumstances does it appear? How frequent? Is it on from startup or appears after certain time/distance etc.
As a quickie and without much info, I would say check the hybrid Battery cooling air filter. Usually in the base of the rear seating area probably on drivers side. Over time the filter can get clogged or even obstructed by a shopping back or similar. Even if this is not the cause it’s good to occasionally check the hybrid Battery cooling fan system.

Hi Joe, I always ensure that the vent for the Hybrid Battery isn’t blocked in fact my wife is probably worse than me for not letting anything block this important vent. However, you mentioned checking the hybrid cooling fan occasionally, which I’ve never done or realised you could. Could please enlighten me on how you check this?

I downloaded the user manual for your 2013 Prius & although the photo you’ve sent is a bit blurry, it looks like the Triangular Master Warning light is illuminated & above The Slip Indicator light is also illuminated. The Malfunction Indicator Lamp looks like it’s also illuminated on the other side of the display beneath which the Foot operated Handbrake switch is also illuminated though this would be on if the handbrake is on.

Can I suggest you download the user manual from the internet & if you are using an iPad copy it to Books for ease of use. The manual refers to a left hand drive Prius so the display warning lights are arranged the other way round for your car. I suggest you do that then you can read about what these warning lights refer to & mean. Quite frankly there is a problem with your car & if I was you I’d get it round to your Toyota dealer as soon as you can for them to diagnose & fix, before any permanent damage is done!

Hi Trevor, on the Gen4 it is a lot easier then on the Gen3, someone already posted the Gen3 and there is a lot to dismantle to get to the fan. On Gen4 remove the single screw and you got access to the filter AND the actual fan is easily accessible. On you tube there are videos for the Gen4, I typed in “ “cleaning Gen4 hybrid Battery cooling fan”. 10 min job at the most, unlike Gen3 which is a pain.

Hi Joe, thanks for coming back to me. After I wrote to you I checked the post where the guy was showing how to access & clean the fan on the Gen 3 Prius. I thought well if it involves all that I’ll skip it & ask the garage to do on the next service. However, as you say, it’s a ten minute job & easy to access so I’m up for that. I’ll take a look at the You Tube video & then give it a go. Thanks again for coming back promptly & the advice, Trev
