Tesco won't insure my Catloc!

I just asked Tesco today about a Dashcam and the reply was it wont lower my premium.

It really shouldn't, if anything it should lower the premium!!

It's just typical, greed and stupidity making them encourage behaviour against their own interest.

Another example was winter tyres - Not only do you not get a discount for fitting winter tyres in winter, which would make the car safer in winter and thus lower risk, but initially almost all insurance companies were *increasing* your premium if you fitted them, counting it as a modification! IIRC it took a few years before they were told not to by their trade association.

If you got a discount I feel more people would be in the habit of using winter tyres (I mean I probably still wouldn't but that's because London is its own little greenhouse...)

Agreed! The typical E…sh misunderstandings, not to use another word.

I find that only certain insurers will give a discount for having a Dashcam, and it usually has to be a specific Dashcam from a relatively small list (Almost always mostly Nextbase for some reason!).

The discount usually isn't that much (Much less than the cost of the Dashcam!), and the insurers that take it tend to be the ones that have higher premiums in the first place anyway...!

Before I bought my auris last year I had a bmw 130i 2 door.

they are very rare in the 2 door and are 267bhp.

when I changed my insurance over to the auris I was just charged the set fee for the changing of the car on the policy.
 

When my insurance was due for renewal I did a search on comparison sites and the auris was considerably more expensive to insure than the bmw.

 

what I’ve saved in car tax and fuel has probable just covered the insurance increase, I couldn’t believe it.

Toyota hybrids used to be on the cheaper side of insurance policies, perhaps up to around 2020 when the cat thefts has risen a lot. As anything else, prices are going only one direction 🆙📈

Auris are normally definitely cheaper to insure than the BMW you had of 2x the bhp! As said above it's most likely to do with the cat theft in these cars. 

I didn't buy an auris for this reason, London is epidemic for cat theft.
