Car coolant type for 1998 avensis

Hi all,

We bought a 1998 toyota avensis yesterday, its a 1.8 petrol automatic.

I've noticed that the coolant needs topping up however I'm confused on which type to buy. Halfords says it's a red coolant I need however the one currently in the car is like a green colour, can someone advise on which one I need? Not sure if Halfords have the right one so might have to get some elsewhere.

I've attached a couple of photos of what it looks like currently.

Many thanks,

Adam

I have mixed colours of coolant in the past without problem, on my old toyota's, even used water in the summer.

You can buy a 50/50 ready mixed coolant which will be ok for topping up.

Glad you are sorted. It was always green or blue for the Mk1 7A-FE I owned. On my current car, I use red/pink premixed or 50/50 mixed with de-ionised water. I won't use tap water on my current car, even for the washers. I use premixed for that too.

Yeah, took it to my local mechanic and he topped it up with something not sure which one it was, wasn't the same colour though so I suppose it doesn't matter too much
