Fog lights on turning

Many other manufacturers have the fog lights come on when turning, is there any way this feature can be achieved for toyota?

I thought fog lights were for when it’s foggy, what do you mean “come on when turning”?

When you turn the steering wheel and the fog light comes on with it to lighten up the area you tuning into., turn to the left and the left fog comes on, then to the right and the right fog comes on, that’s typical for the vag cars, I really don’t like it at all plus very often make me stop at the roundabout when a car is approaching and turning slightly the fog comes one and tricks me it’s a turn signal therefore I quickly react and slow down unnecessarily then realise it’s a fog light not turn signal, happens so many times. If you have a good main lights no really need that extra . 👍

Doubt it. For steering lights to work, either the aim of the lights needs to move or have separate static bulbs mounted at an angle, both of which will work when the steering wheel is turned by a given amount.

On our current and previous i20, we have/had static steering headlights - an additional headlight (H7) bulb and reflector in each light cluster set at an angle. The bulb illuminates when the steering wheel is turned by 35 degrees or more.  Works well.

We have +130% bulbs for the static steering lights and the headlights.

I have heard of lights showing the way but didn’t know it was the fog lights that turned on in some vehicles. Never noticed them out on the road either. I must lead a sheltered life.

Cornering lights (usually via the fog lights) are available as an option on certain makes/models (maybe now standard on certain spec VAG/Nissan vehicles?).  The tech is not new but apparently there are two main types i.e.  one that lights when the indicator is used and the other is a swivelling light triggered by steering angle.

Thanks for replying and your insight. I was hoping it might have been a simple setting that could be changed. Perhaps one day Toyota will catch up with other makers.

My father and I had VAG cars for years before I bought a Toyota. Each was progressively less reliable than the last, with less equipment provided as standard for a higher price. My 2004 Skoda Octavia that I bought new was particularly bad with a catalogue of faults during my four years of ownership (the airbag warning light was on when it was delivered!). The several Skoda dealers I used and Skoda Customer Services were also amazingly bad (such as informing me the wiring loom on the driver's door can be damaged when having a timing belt changed!).

Perhaps, when it comes to reliability, other makers can one day catch up with Toyota. 🙂

Absolutely, there is no worst cars than vw group currently! Fairly new car’s has a list of faults that can keep you of the road for days and that in a regular Toyota even 20 years old you will never find anything like that going bad. Poorly Designed with idea of breaking and parts and labour sales at high prices, but it’s not their fault, it’s customer who still buys and uses this peace of broken metal., not even a metal, plastic mostly everywhere including engine and transmission. French cars are even better made these days, 🤭👍

I really hope they don't in this respect. I have briefly mistaken these turning lights on other makes for turn signals, which can be very dangerous. I'd happily see them banned!

That mirrors my experience with a 2007 Skoda Octavia. I really liked the car but it had a series of faults, the worst of which was intermittent non-starting which neither two main dealers or an independent specialist seemed to be able to fix  People will queue up to tell you that Skodas are really reliable now as they are based on VWs, without considering that unfortunately the VWs they are based on have more than their fair share of issues.

Then why don't we the option to turn off the automatic lights ? 

How many have had other drivers think you are flashing them when going under a bridge ?

I don't like automatic lights either. My Avensis still does have the option to turn the automatic lights off but I appreciate that newer Toyotas don't.

Yeah one more plus for Prius here, you can turn lights off. I don’t like info screens and auto anything except transmission., like to be in charge of what is happening with the car and having no option to turn off your lights really bothers me, at least my one has that only with drl .

I reduced the auto lights sensitivity hoping to overcome this but it didn't make any difference so I reset it to "0" , the default setting.  I haven't tried it yet but if I set it to max sensitivity would the lights come on sooner and stay on?
