Question

Would it be possible to put in a pair of LED bulbs for use as Daylight Running Light's instead of the standard ones on the car.

1.  Possibly though you might need to include resistors if you get a cambus warning.

2. Possibly not legal and could lead to an MOT failure.

Any bulbs fitted must have an E number otherwise it is illegal.  Most advice I see online is about replacing halogen headlamps but in your case best advice appears to be to ask a reputable supplier if the E number in not on the packaging.

Drl's are led, if you have the HIR2 bulbs

Led bulbs are all but illegal for road use, but there are better HIR2 on the market from the like of Osram and Philips

My DRL's are not LED on my Yaris 2018, they look like normal bulbs. Not sure what your stating about LED's being illegal !, as my CHR, GT86 & Kia Sportage all had LED DRL's.

Read what we said.

I said  "Possibly not legal and could lead to an MOT failure"

Flash said "Led bulbs are all but illegal"

Then the advice, ask an expert.  Honest John might be a good source.

OK, thank you very much for that. I will go on their site.

I am a bit confused, I thought DRL’s were the small strip of lights that turn on automatically when you start the car and are there so other road users can see your car easier.
Is that what is being discussed on this thread.?

In a sense yes, but I am talking about the actual DRL bulb, LED's come in all shapes and sizes.

LED daytime running lights are legal.

Aftermarket LED headlight bulbs need to be E marked, and since early 2021 if fitted into headlights which are designed for halogen bulbs, will fail the MOT.

The 2 main types

H4 main, clearance (Drl) and indicator (3 bulbs)

HIR2, Led Drl (built into the HL), and indicator (2 bulbs)

You can not change a standard bulb for a Led

IIRC the icon is the base model for that year so has the H4 3 bulb headlights

From the product description, those are halogen rather than LED.

I take you have the H4 setup (the Philips whitevision H4 are a good upgrade)

oem for that Drl/clearance bulb is 90981-13088,  21/5w aka T20 or 580

As I said in my first post.  The other point I said 'possibly' as it might not be physically possible.

That is what I am going for then, as the LED option is a bit of a nightmare ie canbus error or such like, and these would certainly be a bith whiter than the DRL's I have at the moment.

Many thanks for that clarification Roy, now going for normal DRL bulb's but whiter.

Not in this case as the oem fitment is a halogen bulb

There are only a few E marked led bulbs on the market and these are for cars with oem led's and are not cheap, circa £80 each
