Battery keeps draining and key fob doesn't work (Toyota auris 2011)

Hi,

Hoping someone can advise on the below.

Car is Toyota auris ,2011.

One evening I locked the car with key fob then next day, car wouldn't open with key fob so opened manually and realised that there is no power on car(Battery has drained).

So mechanic charged Battery and car worked along with key fob.

2 days later, key fob wouldn't unlock the car so opened manually and realised Battery has drained again and no power on car.

Tried the below :-

1) change the battery on car and got new battery.

2) changed the batteries inside key fob.

3) car locks from inside using the controls and when lock/unlock key is pressed on key fob, it flashes red buy nothing happens.

4) all doors can be locked manually and system does detect when car is on if the doors are open or closed.

5) internal air circulation button always comes on when car is started even though its turned off manually when car is locked.

Again :-

car works ok apart from key fob lock for few days and now after few days , new battery on car has drained again and no power or lights on car comes up. (Security light keeps flashing).

Could someone advise on what could be issue here ?

Thanks

Its a bit confusing as written down tbh.

Forget the key fob for now because you have twice said that the Battery on the car was drained. You need to work from that point and be clear. If the Battery has drained then you will find the car will not start. Also things such as headlights will be dim. If that is the case then the first step is to measure the voltage across the Battery terminals while in this faulty state.

The key fob will not drain the battery on the car.

The air recirculation might come on automatically if you have climate control and the inside of the car is hot and the set temperature of the AC is low.

Obviously a leak somewhere may simply be something is staying on even when car locked. Your car is 10 years old so could be anything that’s going faulty with age.  I would make sure the interior and boot lights switch off when you lock.  In the summer months, because I not out late at night, I manually turn the interior lights off (switches on the interior roof) and the boot light is switched off.
The wife’s car is a 2010 Auris ( but a hybrid) and that car matches what you say in 5) air con light is always on interior circulation when car switched on, so I do think anything wrong there.
Other then that, someone else will come along and hopefully help.

You have parasitic drain. You need to multimeter to measure the drain and then start pulling fuses until the drain is eliminated and then you will know the circuit to blame.  If its not something important you maybe able to live without it.

Put the volt meter in current mode, then in series with one of the Battery terminal. I dont know what the normal drain is on a toyota but I did a trace on a Honda for a family member, it was about 260mA, but was draining 700mA, its turned out to be the internal lighting/accessories fuse.

I also suggest that you check is the alternator supplying enough charge to keep your Battery fully charged. ???

If I remember correctly normal values for drain in the range on 0.0XX Volts. You may also need a Battery tester, that can test both the Battery and alternator under load. My Autel tool was about 30euros
