My experience today:

Direct line doubled my premium over last year when I was insuring a Volvo V40, so I started looking around...

Toyota Insurance declined to quote

Lots of other quotes, but I went with LV, who were reasonable at last years premium + bit less than 10%

I was a bit surprised Toyota declined to quote, I don't recall that ever happening before.

There are a lot of factors to take into account - they probably declined as the price was sky-high, I was with DL for a few years prices kept creeping up, and they would not match or discount it so i went elsewhere, this year RAC, Lloyds and Hastings all come in at a reasonable price

You don't get anything for brand loyalty these days

Hi, you can try Adrian flux and quote you are a member of Toyota forum Uk , you probably gonna get best possible price, also they are brokers and will talk to you on the phone plus give you advice how to get best cover that suits you. Best experience so far with car insurance. Highly recommended. Remember, you will need to take the quote on the day when you are on the phone with them, check any lowest possible prices to give to them as comparison, they will beat them or match but you need to have real quotes.
Good luck 👍

I moved to DL from NFU after a big increase on renewal a couple of years ago. There's sometimes no rhyme or reason for the premium differences.

DL now £225pa fully comprehensive with protected NCD. I guess a decent premium is one of the advantages of being an older low mileage driver with no convictions or claims. Living in a relative low crime region helps too.

Every insurer has a client base they wish to do business with, and often will quote high prices or decline to quote for those they don't want to insure. A client base will be based on a number of factors and may include things like postcode, occupation, types of car, age range, etc, etc.

One factor that may increase costs is the abolition of price walking from 1st January - which will prevent insurers charging new customers less than existing customers.

You’re either in the target demographic, or given a quote intended to discourage you from taking up the offer. The ironic thing is in some cases an insurer will refuse to quote directly, but a broker using them as an underwriter will.

For example Flux quote 3x my current best price even with club discount, they for whatever reason don’t like my risk profile, which is up to them. Others do and obviously I spend my money with them. Ironically the cheapest insurance I ever had was on a highly modified car with everything declared via a specialist broker and protected NCB at £199/yr fully comp.

Just renewed my car insurance last week.  I been with LV probably 7 years now. However, every year I go to one or more of the internet comparison sites, and most years LV come out top or top 3 BUT at a cheaper price then the renewal notice they send me (and it was like for like quotes I get). Sometimes as much as £30 cheaper, same company, same details. However that gap has been reducing. I know government rules have changed to tighten up such that loyal customers are not taken advantage of. So this year I get my renewal, gone up about £7 over last year which I was surprised at. Did the comparison on Go Compare, and LV price was within 30p of  LV direct price. LV was not the cheapest, two quotes cheaper, one was £30 cheaper but as I no experience of GoSkippy I decided to stay with LV. So I did it with Go Compare BECAUSE the offered to repay £250 of any excess if due to an accident. It was a “freebie”, if ever such a thing.  So still with LV with and added bonus which I hope not to have to claim.

From memory the law on renewal pricing is due to come into effect shortly, but not every insurer will have implemented it until the last moment, so many will get renewals that weren’t subject to it for a period after it comes into effect. It should level the playing field in theory and make renewal quotes more fair, in reality I suspect it’ll have wider ranging effects, it’ll be interesting to see how that plays out.

If you have a look at GoSkippy’s reviews/feedback/history, you’ll likely notice some concerning trends, the common themes are ‘they cancelled my policy’ usually due to not receiving or processing proof, which by implication will impact every single insurance policy you take for the rest of your life, and ‘they increased my premium because they claimed I had apparently made omissions in disclosure’ and if I want to cancel or have a policy cancelled, the deductions are huge. I would have saved £175 by going with them, I got that down to £80 by pushing Hastings and I get a better level of cover. Also it’s owned by the main sponsor of the leave campaign.

The pricing and auto renewal changes come in from 1st January 2022.

Yes, every insurer, including Toyota Corolla, has a specific client base they wish to do business with. Insurers have certain criteria that they use to assess risk and determine the likelihood of claims being made by potential policyholders. This can include factors such as age, occupation, location, previous claims history, and the type of vehicle being insured. Based on these factors, insurers may decide to offer cover, to quote a high price, or to decline to offer a quote altogether. This is why it's important to shop around and compare quotes from multiple insurance providers to ensure you get the best coverage at a competitive price.

Rates by company and deductibles:

Insurance Company Deductible: $500 Deductible: $1000 Deductible: $2000
Geico $800 $725 $650
State Farm $850 $775 $700
Allstate $900 $825 $750
Progressive $1000 $925 $850
Esurance $1100 $1000 $925
Nationwide $1200 $1075 $1000

The rates listed in this table are for Toyota Corolla car insurance from various providers with different deductible options. The deductible is the amount that you pay out of pocket before your insurance coverage kicks in. As you can see, higher deductibles generally result in lower insurance premiums, while lower deductibles result in higher premiums.

These rates are for illustrative purposes only and are based on a hypothetical driver with a clean driving record and no prior insurance claims. Actual rates may vary depending on a variety of factors, including your driving record, location, age, and the insurance company’s underwriting and rating policies. It’s always a good idea to shop around and compare rates from multiple insurance providers to find the best coverage and pricing for your individual needs.
