Hello, do you have any experience with  car/steering wheel vibrations during highway speed?

winter and summer wheels were checked, driveshaft was changed in original toyota service without success. so far they have no idea what is wrong. please advise.

thank you, Peter.

So, are you saying that the vibrations were still there irrespective whether summer or winter tyres/wheels were fitted.?

Hi,

toyota cars are infamous for that sort of things and sometimes it’s almost impossible to find the cause of vibrations. If you had already looked into the wheels and tyres next steps would have be

1. Wheel bearings, perhaps not as it’s almost a new car,  but good to go with the list

2. Engine and transmission mounts, these can go wrong in relatively short time although not a known issue

3. Brakes, check if the discs are clean and shiny and if any of the brake callipers has stuck slider pins, this will show as rusty brakes

4. Suspension., all bushes, shocks, ball joints and stabiliser bar links and bushes to be checked and all wheel alignment , usually in older cars when has tie rod ends worn these may not be found on inspection however at motorway speeds they can let the front wheels change its toe out and the wheels to start pulling apart on the front end and cause vibrations, however this is accomplished with worn inner rims on the tyres , don’t think can be in your case , but again good to check.
5. jack up the car on stands and with the wheels of the ground start and drive up to the speed that vibrations are usually present and record a video then watch and try to figure out. I had similar problems with my car and perhaps still does it аt around 55-60mph, more evident in heavy winds. All has been checked and nothing particularly wrong found, brakes however were helping with vibrations and after properly serviced the vibrations almost gone, almost. 👍

Get you wheels balanced by another totally different  garage/ tyre fitters, its surprising how  often they can get balancing wrong or not bother to use small enough balancing weights.

If you then still have vibration some shops also offer On car balancing for really problematic vibration, but you will have to phone around to find one who can do your wheels; though as below not sure if thats realistic on the hybrid models ?

Assume you have had all four wheels  balanced, rear ones can create vibration though the floor And Steering wheel; many will say that its only the front wheels that can give steering wheel vibration /wobble, but thats not true.

Not sure with the newer hybrid models, but once up to speed and getting vibration, can you coast downhill in neutral or even switch the engine off  ( with extreme care)  to prove if its  not related to the transmission ?
