Hi all, my handbrake seems to be binding but only on the drivers side rear, is it a new calliper or can it be adjusted? TIA

Hi,

any issues with brakes on hybrid toyotas are known issues due to the fact that the car slows down using its e motor and brakes are always cold, they get rusty and slider pins stuck, preventing brake pads moving and clamp the disc , basically only the inner pad works, the outer just stays for support but does not provide braking force. You may need to remove the pads and the callipers, cleans them together with the pads and slider pins , lube the pins with silicone grease and clean the rust from the disc with wire brush or sand paper for wood, put back everything together and you are done. Do not use any other grease anywhere else. No need to change any parts unless worn out. You need to watch videos to familiarise yourself first. Important steps to follow too, you need to disconnect the 12v Battery before you start any work and make sure you do not open the drivers door before disconnect the Battery or if you had opened you have to wait for the system to de pressurised itself, then disconnect negative terminal.
Good luck 👍

Chris, maybe best if you go into your Profile and Edit the Toyota model to include Petrol 1.33 TR, saves any confusion is it hybrid, or diesel, is a 1.6 etc

Hi, in this case do not worry about Battery and regenerative braking but the rest of the above applies too. Cleaning and lube is part of the maintenance to the brake system every few years , plus replacement of brake fluid. There is a possibility to have stuck piston on that calliper that also can cause binding brakes. 👍
