Dashboard information panel dims when I put the lights on

 When I switch the lights on in my 2009 IQ  the multinformation panel dims so much I can barely  see it. How do you turn the brightness up ? Am i missing something?

Don't mean to sound thick , but which button?

With the side lights on, press the Mode button until you see a series of dashes displayed. Then push and hold the button for more than 1 second which will adjust brightness of the instrument panel light. Fewer dashes, dimmer and more dashes, brighter.
