Replacement Windscreen Problems

Hi all. Just after a bit of advice and if anyone had any ideas? A stone hit the windscreen of my Yaris three weeks ago and created a large crack. I did the usual insurance claim and was put onto Autoglass. After putting the appointment back twice, they have now told me it could be 6 to 8 months (yes, months) before they can replace it because apparently glass for Toyota cars is hard to obtain and has to be ordered from Japan..cue a long explanation of how Brexit, coronavirus and the Suez Canal blockage was to blame. Is anyone else having similar issues? Slightly concerned at having to drive around with it for the rest of the year.

Glass for most Toyotas isn't difficult to obtain, unless they are new models. Usually Autoglass, and most glass replacement companies, use 3rd party manufacturers - for example Guardian Glass - as that keeps costs down for the insurer, and indirectly for the insured.

Having said that, as your Yaris must be the fourth generation, 3rd party windscreen manufacturers may not have started producing glass for yours as yet.

I would get in touch with your insurer to see whether they can suggest another option.

Contact your dealer, they should be able to source one quickly, the glass is made in Europe the car is built in France - so i don't know why they are saying it needs to come from Japan

I once bought a fuel tank heat shield 77641-02010.  It came from Japan but, it had a sticker on it saying "made in England"  It seemed so weird that I took a photo of it, I wonder if I can find that.  Probably not as it must have been eight or nine years ago.

Made in England - probably where the labels are printed

Hope you get sorted soon.

My Volvo 940 screen on the A38 got cracked from a stone on way back from work. You do realise you may get a fine and points driving with a cracked screen if spotted? I used my Toyota after and had the screen replaced at home. My glass was Saint Gobain, replacement. £195

Mine was cracked in drivers view. Offside A pillar to top passenger!
