Weird feeling / jolt when going from engine braking to accelerating

Recommended Posts

Hey people

I originally had some issues under acceleration that were helped (a lot!) by using Wynn's additives - I'd like to thank the people suggesting these. I still have one slight issue left, which I'd just like to hear you people on before I take it to the dealership.

When going from engine braking to accelerating, it feels like there's drivetrain slack. It is even possible to hear a slight impact noise when doing so. It's often not that noticeable, but if the engine is turning at around 2000 rpm and you go from engine braking to accelerating, it might do that kangaroo thing a little with a few impact noises (speeds up a little and slows down a little, as if there's slack in the drivetrain). It's also noticeable if you're going down a small hill where you need just a VERY small amount of throttle - the car might kangaroo up and down a little in speed with impact noises. I've driven a Land Rover before with drivetrain slack and it feels 100% like this, but I just cannot imagine that it'll be drivetrain slack in such a new car (2015, mk2).

What do you guys think? Is it just meant to be like this? Else I'll take it on the lift at Toyota.

Thank you all.

Hi,

this as described seems to me like failed engine and transmission mounts, could be one of these or all been weakened, needs to be checked for excessive movement, sometimes is difficult to diagnose them but if you are about to take the car to a garage they should be able to find out.

Hello Chris,

Just seen your post and wonder if this article could be the answer to your problem. The attached screenshot which I have marked up with the text box, is taken from the very bottom of the main article.  I hope this helps.

Could you keep in touch on how you get on.

Kind regards, Bob Sutton

That is a very interesting suggestion! I've actually had that very bulletin performed on my car many months ago, and it totally helped the jerking, but did not fully remove it. It may just be time for engine mounts. Thank you both for suggestions!
