Came across this interesting article on the development of the Corolla.

The 2 litre engine appears to have both Direct Injection and inlet Port Injection. Does the 1.8 engine have the same?

Thanks for sharing, great info. The 1.8 engine has only port injection and comes straight from Prius gen 4 from 2016 onwards., still very good engine though. Next generation Prius 5 that will come around 2023 will be most likely equipped with these new dynamic force engines and advanced e motors and a new Battery that will allow higher percentage in ev use, it will be a real deal, no plug and over 75mpg real world consumption. Who is in?   ✌️🚗👍

Nah. I'm enjoying my hybrid but it was only ever a stop-gap on the way to full EV. My next car will probably be a Toyota but it will be full EV. Death to ICE!

Ev’s are real deal indeed, they drive so much like ours but just no engine kick in, all quiet up to the full speed. I like to try Gf’s  ionic and then go back to my Auris, quickly press ev button and I have an ev, though not for long 😂👍 if I wasn’t doing what I do now I would not mind  a full ev car at all. , they just not suitable for everyone. 🚗

As far as I can see the 1.8 corolla has direct injection only as the injectors enter straight into the cylinder head I cannot see an additional port injector.

No, it’s just port injection, rail with injectors mounted before the intake valves and spray directly onto them, direct injection only engines are prone to failures at low miles  due to a carbon buildup, Toyota will not do that , all taxis will never buy Prius or Corolla again.👍 I have seen my car intake from inside and injectors and valves were clean like on a new car , just not shiny metal, but greyish colour., but  the intake passage were dirty with soot all that after 130k miles. I had cleaned the soot from the passages ,intake manifold, throttle body, and the whole egr system and the car still drives good at 174k. At around 200k have a plan to do this again. 👍

That's an interesting post.  I'm going into a hybrid for the first time and I have been wondering if I would need to take it for long runs occasionally.  I found an article on mag.toyota that talked about keeping the Battery topped up by leaving it on Ready for 60 minutes.  If it won't coke up that makes sense.

Tony they are definitely not mounted on a rail on the auris I had they were. they definitely enter straight into the cylinder head but I use esso supreme or Shell v power so should lessen the carbon build up as it contains better detergents.

Sorry correction just had a look they are mounted on a rail but it does look like they enter the head directly although I can see some sort of manifold port.

They generally take car of themselves, but like all cars it wants to be driven and not left sat still!

The article about keeping the 12v Battery topped off was triggered by people not driving their cars for months during lockdown, which made the 12v Battery go flat.

I'm probably out of the EV game - I saved up for near a decade hoping to see a Mk1 Yaris-sized EV capable of 300+ miles at 70mph, but not only is nobody even close to that, but they seem to be going in the opposite direction! A 150-mile ranged land-boat is no use to me.

Sadiq Khan's stupid ULEZ extension and my incompetent local dealer forced my hand, so I'll probably have this Mk4 for the forseeable future!

It's a damned good thing the Mk4 is so awesome or I'd be a lot more bitter! This car is so great!

I not read the article you mention from mag.Toyota but the reference to keeping the 12v Battery topped up by leaving the car on Ready mode for up to 60 minutes was discussed a lot on this forum during the winter as more then a few cars the 12v Battery were going flat after just a few days of lockdown. The big hybrid Battery will charge up the 12v battery, but when the big battery runs down to a certain point the computer calls for the engine to run to charge up the big battery. It is surprising that the ICE does not run for very long before switching off again. Two maybe three times in the hour, that’s all.
