I have a 2012 Aygo with 40K on the clock. The past year it's been losing power during gear changes (not going forward when told to do). I drive it pretty hard and think the gearbox needs a look at (as much as I know). My garage says they can't help with autos. The auto garage says he only deals with proper autos. Is it dealer or nothing?

I think to 2 garages you already approached have been very honest with you - MMT is not the usual auto gearbox. They could have taken the work on, fudged about for a bit and charged you for you seeing no difference. Full marks to them.
Whether there are MMT specialists outside of the Toyota dealership I do not know. But my experience says if it’s a specialist job it will cost. A Toyota  dealer will probably charge their normal hourly/job rate.

The MMT is a robotic manual gearbox with electronics to make it auto shift . It still has a clutch inside maybe it’s started slipping . Maybe new clutch and get the electronic shift recalibrated . Will be a Toyota dealer job only .

If your MMT is playing up then it can be one of two things. If it does not hold gear and slips in to neutral by itself and beeps, then it is the actuator problem. If it shifts gears but beeps while accelerating as some one pointed out earlier then it is the clutch that has gone bad. Either way it is loads of money. The other garages that deal with MMT type gear boxes are VW since the VW UP has a similar gear box and that means Seat Mi and Skoda citigo too. I would avoid MMT cars in future. They have become unpopular even in India where the MMTs earlier appeal due to cheap cost was a benefit and many car manufacturers both national (Tata) and International (Suzuki celerio, Hyundai etc) offered them. In spite of cheap labour and repairs by road side mechanics the MMT gear boxes are not really liked EVEN there.
