iPhone X internet connection issue

I hope someone can help with connecting my 2016 Gen 4 Prius to the internet via my IPhone X.  My wife’S iPhone 7 connects faultlessly but mine keeps returning ‘connection failed’. I had the car serviced recently and was told by my local Toyota dealer that the fault lay with outdated Sat Nav software. I said “are you sure?” Oh yes they said, so I spent £110 on 3yrs of updates only to find I still have the issue.  Any ideas for an old chap tearing what’s left of his hair out.

Make sure your x is on os 14.6 and your WiFi hotspot is enabled. When you first connect make sure the iPhone is “awake” and on the WiFi hotspot page.
I had this issue with my 2016 gen 4 Prius but it was fixed with the 2017 map update.
if that helps.

Thanks Paul, I think I’ve already tried that but I’ll disconnect everything tomorrow and start again from scratch making sure I follow your recommendations.👍

Could be an Apple problem and not a Prius problem.

I gave up on Prius Gen4 sat maps. Looks pretty showing it on a fixed screen, but even when you upgrade a map to the latest version it could still out of date with reality. For the number of times I now go out of my local area, if I have the need for a sat nav it’s via my smartphone and Waze. Gives up to date traffics warnings, it up dates itself, and it’s all free. It doesn’t look as good sitting there in a cradle but it works in a fuller sense then the in-screen device. When on a long journey I do keep the smartphone linked to the car power so it is continuously charging, so when I get to a destination the phone is fully charged and thus ready to be carried about.

Best sat nav is your smartphone, anything from iPhone 6s and above will work better than any other build in or dedicated devices. Google maps works best for me, but plenty of others apps too. For the bluetooth and iPhone X , my advice is to delete the car from the phone bluetooth settings (forget device) and then recognise the car again, make a new connection from the app you are using. Might help clear off any errors.
Good luck

All satnav maps are 1-3 years behind development.

Thanks guys for your input. I’m the sort of chap who like things to work as they should and, although I know you’re right about smartphones I’m not keen on cradles and wires dangling.  It’s frustrating to find the iPhone 7 connects perfectly and iPhone X, although bluetooth kicks in automatically, it will not automatically connect to the internet.  Thanks anyway guys.   Bald Dave👍

I give you a true experience. I live on a small estate of 35 homes, one road leading onto a main road going into Chester few miles away. Someone decided to do road works on this main road right outside our access road. So they put up two way traffic lights to cater for the main road traffic. At home I set Waze up for the journey, much to my surprise Waze had picked up there was road works there showing in the right place exactly. Of course I knew that, but those roadworks could have been on my route miles away causing a hold up on rush hour. My Toyota nav would probably not notified me of those road works I am pretty sure.
I agree maps will not be 100% up to date, but Toyotas seem well behind, and “clunky” to use.

Does your mobile phone plan on your iPhone X allow tethering via the bluetooth connection? (Some service providers don't - unless you pay extra)

It turns out that the problem was with the profile installed from the Mobile Network Provider (Lebara). I deleted it and the ‘drain was unblocked’. Thanks again.
