Sleeping key fob

Does the new Yaris have a key fob that goes to sleep if it's not moved for a certain amount of time.

As far as I am aware it is only the rav4 key that does this. You can put the key fob into Battery saving mode by pressing and holding the lock button then pressing the unlock button twice this also disables the key from transmitting the led will flash 4 times it’s the same on the corolla.

however this does disable the smart entry start by then pressing any button on the remote will enable the smart entry start. It’s all in the Manuel page 141/142

your present car should be the same.

I don't know, but you can download the full car eManual from the Toyota website with only the model details (you don't need VIN), the section on entry/exit/locking will likely describe whether it has it. It's worth looking at the eManual because they have a lot more detail than the paper ones, including on how you can change settings.

Don't know if it's of interest, but if your concern is around security and risk of keyless theft, even if the fob doesn't go to sleep, you may be able to switch off the smart entry and start system in the customisation options through media unit and use the keyfob in the conventional way as a push to lock/unlock.

I've recently purchased another model of Toyota, not a Yaris, and was concerned about this as I'd read some concerning news articles about it being vulnerable to keyless theft and frankly I didn't want to be messing around putting keys in metal boxes or Faraday pouches. But buried in the back of the eManual, Section 9-2 Customisation, were the instructions on how to disable it through the media centre, and use the key fob in the conventional way with push buttons to lock/unlock.

I couldn't see any mention of this in my paper manual, I wonder how many other owners don't know this is possible?

Sort of. "Electronic key battery-saving function" - The procedure to set it starts at the bottom of page 140 to the top of page 141 of the e-manual.
