Could I run my 13 aygo without a back box on without any problems

Not really, as it supports the whole exhaust, and why would you ? (it may also make the car unroadworthy)

If you want noise, get a back box

On my C1 I had a custom duplex Powerflow exhaust, when first fitted it was noisy enough for the installer to fit an additional tiny silencer in the exhaust before the back box. Looked and sounded great after that!
