1998 Avensis Petrol idle issue

Hi guys ,

i have a 98 2.0 Petrol manual Avensis , bit of a weird one. I work away and the car only be’s used every second day , and this past week when I start the car after sitting , it has a erratic bouncy idle which vibrates the car and I tried leaving it today to see what it would do and after 1-2 minutes the car stalled. Fired up again straight away but still bouncy idle , i revved it and moved it over the car park and she settled down to the normal smooth idle. Strange bit is it hasn’t only started it this week and only does it on that occasion after sitting for 2 days and not again that day , thanks have had it 4 years no bother , serviced etc , new plugs recently , wondering is fuel or air or spark problem? Thanks

Hi can someone help with this ? Car is still doing it and the exhaust tone seems louder with no leaks , I checked under the car with a pit. I’ve read it may be maf sensor , fuel filter , bad cat ? Thanks

On the every second day you use it what sort of journey are you doing?
When did it last have a service.?

Right, just wondering if it was being underused and getting choked up, but its getting a good running.

Any way of checking if you have any codes showing.
