Auris 2010, 5th gear issue

Hi all

I have an auris 2010, diesel, with 6 gear, manual transmission which i have owned last 7-8 years.

Since last 6-8months i had problems with shifting to 5th, i had to move gear forward and back a few time before it went in to 5th gear,  but today i was not able to shift from 4th gear to 5th gear at all, no matter what i did and the speed it wouldn't go in to 5th.

I drove the car in to a parking slot while the engine still running but not moving and wanted to see if i could change to 5th gear and it could easily go in to 5th gear.

Do some of you know what the issue could be? Transmission or something else?

Thanks in advance

I think transmission itself will be ok.

It looks like something with synchromesh or clutch cylinder.

Try changing out the oil, simplest thing to do. If that does not help, try some additive for synchromesh.

Well last week i drove 30km and stopped and could see white smoke coming out of the hood but it was not much but i could feel the engine was extremely hot compare to regular condition.

I drove to the repair shop and he checked car and couldn't find any reason for the engine smoked little, he told me that it could be oil leaked on exhaust which smoked, and we could see some black spots but the car had rust treatment so most of is black;)

He changed oil and since then no smoke at all, and it didnt had any effect on my 5th gear issue.

Where can i put the additive for Synchromesh?

Replace the oil in transmission, not in the engine. If replacing the oil does not help, then you can try adding the synchromesh additive into that transmission oil.

I recommend buying Toyota oil for the transmission, contact dealer, or find by yourself online. Should be 75W. As for the additive, if you will need it, i can't recommend any, never used it personally.

  • 1 year later...

I guess the oil helped, as he has not returned back on the forum to say " Oh no, that did not work, what else can i try?".

Anyway it's the cheapest/easiest thing to try.
