Some More Questions From An Impatient Buyer!

I'm hoping that some people will enlighten me with their current experiences of the Prius, while I wait until September for mine!

- Has anyone purchased any accessories for their Prius? I was thinking of having the bumper corner protectors, and just wanted to know if they're 'worth' getting?

- The same goes with the reverse parking aid, as I'm still a little unsure about the split-screen rear windscreen. Is it something that you get used to and is actually not a visual impairment? I presume the parking aid uses a beeping sound to alert the driver, but if the car also uses a beeping sound in reverse, would it not be confusing?

- What's the longest that anyone has left their Prius unused? I've read somewhere that the Prius uses hot liquid 'coolant' to heat up the engine? I travel from time to time on business for up to two weeks at a time. Will this be a problem? I found to my cost that it was a problem for my Volvo's brakes recently on my return from Kuwait...

thanks!

One of the chaps at the Prius meet I went to recently measured the current drain of an 04 Prius parked. He reckons 4 weeks would be fine unused. Better than the Prius Classic.

I think protectors for the corner of the bumpers and the doors is a good move. Our company car park seems to be full of half wits who have no respect for other peoples property....bl**dy Thatcher generation!

Had to get a "smart repair" done when someone scuffed my rear bumper. Guess what? BMW driver!

I'm rubbish at reversing but seem to manage OK with the split screen and no reversing aid....I just avoid reversing

Another good extra is a rubber boot liner. CostCo do one that fits fine for £10-£15.

Hi,

I got the reverse beeper on my Prius. The tones from the sensors are different from reversing warning tone. Also as you get near an object the frequency increases. It's easy to differentiate between the two.

The visibility out the back of the Prius is great. The spoiler is there where it should be and in my opinion the abilitiy to be able to see below is a bonus, so if anything you have more of a view. Also I use bottom view to judge when to slam my brakes on to give the tailgater a nasty shock with my LED brake lights. As when their headlights and top of bonnet are viewable in the bottom window you know for sure that they are too damned close.

Before anyone has a go at me for dangerous driving then think about the idiot tailgating, they are the dangerous ones. If they should hit the back of my car, i'm in a no lose situation when it comes to blame. I only do this on my own, and not with family in car. So beware, don't tailgate a blue T-Spirit Prius !

Hi Jason

I knew the answer would be that you'd have two different sets of beeps. But my dealer told me that there'd only be one set of beeps when I ordered it. I think I'll have a moan once my car actually arrives :P

I'm not a fan of tailgating. Although I don't exactly approve of your method, I prefer to lift off the accelerator and slow down. I often see speeding drivers overtaking buses on the rat runs so I allow them to get stuck behind me!

I still think the visibility at the back is suspect despite what you say. It does split your sight whatever you say about it

Paul,

Point taken re my driving. It just winds me up something rotten as I would never let myself get in a position so close to another car at speed, knowing full well that if they had to emergency brake in front of me I could be a gonna! I suppose it's that fact that I feel the whole world owes me coz of my courtesy and when some idiot screams up behind you in the fast lane in a BMW flashing his high beam expecting you to pull over, before you even can, when already travelling at the speed limit. More often than not I do as u do and just slow down even more (satisfication at watching the guy getting even more wound up). I judge the danger situation much more carefully before applying brakes.

Yes the beeps... It's not a big deal really, u do get used to them fairly quickly. What's more annoying to me, if there is anything annoying about the prius, is the warning beeps for not putting on your seat belt or the passenger. If you continue to ignore these warnings they just get even more louder and harsher. However, this does ensure that you ALWAYS wear a seatbelt. Thinking about that, it might save my life, when one day a 7 series hits me in the rear end at 90mph !

Malc - the answer is "nowhere yet!"

The latest date I have is October 20, and that's a worst case date, but the dealer has yet to update me on that.

He did tell me last week that another person who ordered a week before me (for a T Spirit), was expecting the delivery at the end of October but it jumped forward a month and is now expected September 27th.

I'll see if there's another update tomorrow. I can't believe that a confirmed date can't be obtained.

I've only had two cars before, but this is still poor customer service. KwikFit in Bath is another one on my blacklist after the worst experience I've ever had, but that's another story.

Sad isn't it?

Toyota make brilliant cars, their factory in Derby is staggering. Yet when it comes to distribution, dealers etc they let the side down.

My experience with Toyota (GB) when I was trying for a grant was dire. My experience with dealers has been dire.

But what a brilliant car.

Friend of mine has ordered a Lexus. He has the same problem with confirmed dates. Also had a problem getting a deal with the Nottingham dealer but got an excellent deal in Birmingham.

I phoned up the dealer today, and the T4's current status is 'AT SEA', which is great news. The arrival date is October 16, but I think (hope) that it'll turn up earlier. The dealer have also said that if it arrives on the 16th, I could take delivery of it on the 20th (after fitting various accessories).

As I've mentioned before, I am amazed that the dealer can't give me a proper delivery date. If there was, I wouldn't feel so impatient and frustrated. I'm ready to offload my Volvo! :crybaby:

In addition to the above, he had the audacity to say that the date had moved two weeks forward. Eh?! Since when?! You said 'end of September' - don't pull that one! Grrrr!
