Aftermarket Bluetooth fitted but I don't know how to use it

Hello

When I bought my Avensis '08 last year I noticed it had bluetooth installed. During the testdrive the owners phone was connected which I thought was great

Still to this day I have no idea how to use it or connect my own phone. It feels like Ive pressed all the possible button combinations but to no avail. And previous owner doesnt respond to my question.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to connect my phone? Is this some kind of aftermarket thing?

Sweden, I attached a picture of the radio stack. I cant find any bluetooth interface unless it's hidden somewhere

It may be possible you have a Toyota ( steering wheel control ) blue tooth kit installed, try THIS

Thank you for the guide. It looked promising, but then pairing a device according to the manual, the radio just goes quiet inside the car when I'm holding the "Mode" button on the steering wheel. There should be a speaker voice asking for my command, but its just dead silent.

Could add that I also tried reseting it according to the manual. 

Turn off ignition, hold "Down" and "Mode" on steering wheel, turn on ignition, wait 15 seconds but nothing happens.

No I do not. But it does mute the radio for some seconds when i hold it. But no voice

I fitted an aftermarket bluetooth module to the original Toyota radio in my 2009 Auris. As it was purely a plug-in unit behind the dash which connected to the existing radio via the CD changer socket there were no controls on the dash or radio for it. To connect you simply made bluetooth discoverable on your phone, selected the appropriate bluetooth device from the list, asked it to connect and when prompted entered the default PIN which was something like 0000 or 1111, and that was it. It was all done on the phone, no buttons to push on the car at all.

I have used and tested a few aftermarket bluetooth adapters over the years, from the Novero Trusty One that plugs into the car and stereo wiring loom, to the CD changer port type. I am currently using the WEFA Bluetooth/USB adapter, which is great. All of these adapters are simple and easy to pair with the phone. First time, put the phone in to pairing mode, turn on car to acc mode, then check the phone for the adapter, then click on the correct name. There usually a simple code - 0000. It should be paired. Much easier pairing process than the built in bluetooth of my car, that only supports voice - the reason why I use an additional adapter. Most of the adapters will use a similar pairing process, and all the work is done by the phone.

Here we are two years later and still no clue how to activate the bluetooth. Bumping the thread...

You need to contact the previous owner and ask if they have instructions. You saw them using their phone, so they had to connect it somehow. 

Failing that, you need someone who specialise in in-car entertainment to see your setup in person. They may have to remove the audio unit and other parts of the console, to see what unit is plugged into the rear interface socket (cd changer port) or power/speaker connector, like the Parrot and Novero. I assume it must be a bluetooth adapter plugged into the CD changer port at the rear, because you have not shown a separate wired controller. Most Bluetooth/USB interface modules are controlled by the audio units controls and steering controls if fitted. There are the odd one that will have a wired controller. The Parrot and Novero are plugged into the power and speaker connector. The came with the wired controller and higher version with a screen. 

I am not familiar with the stereo fitted to your car, but I am sure no Avensis T25 had integrated bluetooth. It had to be an add on unit. 

Overall, nobody here can really help without knowing what bluetooth systems is fitted. The general way to pair Bluetooth devices is both be in pairing mode, then the phone will search for the other device. When found, a pairing code is typed in. normally the code is 0000, 1234, 9999 or if stated by the manufacture the code they use. If correct, the phone confirm pairing is successful.

To test everything works, try getting some to call the phone. If the phone has music stored in it, does the Bluetooth allow music playback? Some Bluetooth are only setup for telephone voice calls.

As I stated at beginning of this post, you may need to contact the previous owners.

As this is an aftermarket system and you've had no success in getting it to work after all of this time, if you can't get in touch the previous owner for instructions then I'd probably be inclined just to remove it and fit something else. These plug-in hands free units aren't expensive now, and the fitting is relatively straightforward.

Hey, thanks for your suggestions. It's not really a big deal if I can't get it to work. I'll just my old CD's instead 🙂

Yeah after I bought the car I tried reaching out to prev owner but he did not respond so I guess he didn't want to help me. 

I'm not sure if this really is an aftermarket unit. I'm more leaning against the Toyota SWC bluetooth installation. Because 1) When prev owner demoed the car there was a voice saying "XXX's phone connected" when he entered the car 2) There is a microphone installed as seen in the pictures, which would be necessary for the voice commands that SWC use

But I guess I would have to pull out the radio unit to be sure, I am not that commited (yet) 🙂

Your idea is good. If the stereo is removed just to access the adapter, Jesper (Naikon) could see the unit, take photos, then search online for the manufacturer is, and maybe get the manual. If I saw any photos of the adapter unit, I would try and fine as much info, then reply to this post. Every adapter I have used were bluetooth and USB, so my music usually comes from a USB memory stick.
