Yaris Cross - delivery, etc .......

I wonder if theres a difference in order spec?

Mine is a Scarlet Excel with the SUV Pack as the only extra. I heard somewhere Scarlet orders were being fulfilled quicker (lucky choice!)

According to Toyota colour change on a production run takes 2 minutes. Mine is a Yaris X design in galactic blue with no extras apart from front & rear cameras which are fitted in the UK or so I'm told. So I can't see why the delay? As I said the wait is what it is, but it gets disheartening to see later orders being built delivered whilst still waiting. Can there be that many prospective owners cancelling RHD orders?

I think it's to do about batches and runs. They likely won't take that 2 minutes to change the paint if the chronological order was "one white car - one blue car - one white car". Instead they will probably churn out tens (hundreds?) of the white cars first that apparently sell the most.

The Finnish toyota site shows you the ETAs for different options. Basic trims in white/grey were 4 week ETA, most others 12-16 weeks range.

Well I too would be cancelling the order but sounds as if someone has their wires crossed.

T&C clearly state if car is ordered between 4th April and 3rd July 2023 and delivered by end of year. Didn't you challenge them?

T&C still say that right now - look for yourself.

It may all boil down to the question was the car a new retail order if it had been pre-ordered? Let's say it wasn't. In that case you'd be entitled to £0 finance contribution.   Why are they saying it would be £600 when you're not ordering it in July?

What does it say on your order form? They must have given you prices - they must have gone thru a pre-PCP finance check to make sure everything was OK for the finance to proceed at the time of or the folloing days of ordering the car.  That's the date applicable to any offers, not the date they deliver the car.

I'd have been giving Toyota Finance a call and getting them to explain. Sounds to me like your dealer is wrong, either that or they were fiddling the books in order to keep £1750 - £600 = £1250 for themselves.

I honestly can't get my head around why they'd do that. It's not in the dealers interest, it's certainly not in Toyota Finance's interest...   it's a weird one.

The dealer told me on 5th June that Toyota had reduced the £1750 deposit contribution (even their website etc said it ran until 3rd July) . I have the signed dealer order form dated 20th May showing the Toyota Deposit contribution of £1750 but the dealer said that it was Toyota who had changed the terms and it would have only been valid if I had filled in the finance application form and submitted to Toyota, and it had then been approved prior to the 5th June when Toyota decided to change their own rules. ( & now the £1750 deposit allowance doesn't run until 3RD July.

I saw no need to rush the Finance apllication as I hadn't had a firm delivery date & any part ex value on my car was only valid for 30days prior to delivery of the new car. The part ex figure would have altered any finance figures so thought I'd just wait until 30days before delivery OR do it before 3rd July, the cutoff date for the £1750 according to Toyota.

I would have hoped the dealer may have fought the corner with Toyota Finance to still give the £1750 allowance as they had a £500 deposit and a firm order but they didn't.  Also they still haven't refunded the £500 deposit to my card!. Why is it that when they take a deposit from your card it goes straight out but when it comes to a refund they take 8 to  10 days!.

I am amusingly still getting email notifications from Toyota telling me the car is in build, then another that it has been built, and another saying it has left the factory 🙂 . Feel like replying and telling them where to put it but noone would read it.

As I said above, it's not what the system is saying now, it's what it was saying at time of order. What figure did they write down when they took you thru the pre-finance check?

Also worth noting that T&C are clearly stated on website ( although it does say the offer can be withdrawn at anytime ). The finance page is only intented to be used as an example, the figures can change anytime. If you look at finance page it gives same depost allowance for any quote but T&C of £1750 say it has to be over 42mths with 0-35% deposit.

Are you 100% sure that's what the salesperson said? It makes no sense.

"(although it does say the offer can be withdrawn at anytime )"

That's the part the dealer kept repeating to me when I said I'd paid a deposit on the agreement that the order included the £1750 allowance.

So, anything Toyota put on their website about "this offer runs until XXdate" should just read "this offer runs until we decide it doesn't run"

I'm very disappointed in Toyota with this policy - my wife had set her heart on a Cross but the mean spiritedness of Toyota effectively putting the price up £1150 has called into question our decision and will probably not go ahead now. We'll wait, a better offer might pop up later in the year.

Also, I was a little peeved at the main dealer test drive policy - the sales person insisted on accompanying us on a pre-agreed route and further insisted that it was company policy that she should sit in the front at all times - just exactly what the reasoning behind the overly regulated 'test drive' policy and exactly what the point of her being in the front is I don't know.

I think it’s standard that the salesperson sits in the front, they did this when I test drive my Ford, and on the test drive with the cross,,it’s no big deal..

These PCP offers vary in line with economic conditions.  The interest has dropped and the contribution drops with it.  The rate was 9.9% at the end of last year then it dropped to 7.7% and now it’s 5.9%.  What you want is no interest and maximum deposit contribution or you will withdraw your decision.  Somebody is hanging on to a Renault which is a dreadful car with even more dreadful long term reliability.   It’s a real pity Toyota don’t give them away with 0% and £2000 or even throw in free servicing.  You’re buying a high value item on tick.  Keep your old inefficient car and safety tech out of spite to yourself or do the sums over the whole term.

I guess it comes down to what's important, cost of car or month payments.

For me it was cost of car as the intention is to pay off the PCP deal asap.  The deposit contribution was important and the further negotiations meant I ended up with a price I'm happy with, the monthly cost is meaningless for me, but important to others.

Just because Toyota have changed the financing deal, doesn't meant you can't negotiate with the dealer for discounts.

On our test drive the salesman stayed in the showroom and we had the car to ourselves for a couple of hours.

In other news we picked up our Yaris Cross Excel in scarlet flare on Friday.

We ordered at the end of March and the build was started late may. It looks like we were lucky it got on the first boat after arriving at the port and it only stayed in Derby for 4 days.

We had ordered the adventure pack but as the mud flaps (front and rear) are discontinued they removed that from the order.

Happy with the car although one very small paint chip on the nearside roof (door side of the rail) which it is going back to have sorted.

Here in Finland I've never heard of the salesman joining the test drive. EDIT: Well, I've actually had one with me, but thats cos he brought me the car a 1000 kilometers, so he had no real place to wait around while I drove, so he joined me. But if you walk into a car dealership and ask for a test drive, nobody is joining you (unless you maybe want to)

Small city perks, but I recently test drove a Ford Puma (and years ago a Volvo in the same store) and they didnt even ask for any ID or fill any forms. Just gave me a key no questions asked and said feel free to do a fair test drive 😄

Last time I asked like "you dont want any ID or anything?" and he said "nah, our cameras have picked you up already" 😄

I was lucky in that I was allowed to go for a test drive without the Salesman. It allowed me to really testthe car.

In previous years when I was dealing with VAG I took PCP to get the deposit contribution. Then cleared the balance within a week and the interest was only about £4.50.

I have had zero% on the last two Toyotas but this one would have had an interest charge. I told the salesman my intention to pay it off quickly to minimise interest but he warned me that Toyota are alive to that scenario and could well charge the whole deposit contribution back to you - indeed it says so on their website.

Exercise caution.

What a disappointment for you. Pointless taking it any further but again I'm a tad confused about submitting the finance. It's not you who submits the finance application, it's the dealer, and they do it as soon as the order is taken - or at least they'd be stupid not to.

The reason is very simple. Anyone could say they're buying the car on finance but obviously you need to be approved or it'd all be a complete waste of time and the dealer could stand to loose money. Say Joe Blogs orders a £30k YarisX on PCP, then with a week to go and the car in the UK ready to be shipped to the dealer, Joe submits his finance request and states his only income is from his Saturday job at McDonalds, he has a £2000 a month mortgage and he's defaulted on his last three credit card payments. And let's add in a CCJ for further dramatic effect. 🤣   Toyota ain't go to give him a £25,000 loan.

What happens, or at least should happen, is a pre-approval is requested and if the check comes back OK then the order is placed. If the car takes 6mths or so to be delivered then another finance cheque may be required nearer the time. But the agreement isn't put in place until a day or so before, or on the day the car is delivered. Are they implying they can change the contribution right up to the day the car is delivered?

Or you can look at it another way and the reason I take interest in your story - Toyota were offering a £1400 contribution in October when I ordered my car. When that offer finished, the deposit contribution went up to £1750 several months before the original eta.  I asked them if I'd now get the £1750 and Toyota finance said no, it's the offer when you ordered the car that counts.

If what you say is accurate then legally they're on what we in Scotland would say 'a shoogly peg' ( insecure )  It's highly illegal to retrospectively alter T&C unless of course they can prove it puts them at a financial loss. It'll all boil down to what date did they order the car. I'm just wondering if your dealer obtained their information from Toyota Finance themselves or they're making assumptions?  Of course the other possibility is they never ordered the car on time.

Something defo strange has gone on.

PS - it's what your dealer puts on the order form that matters because your contract has nothing to do with Toyota or their website. Your dealer should have checked at the time of order what the allowance was - if it was £600 and they put £1750 by mistake then fair enough, but if it really was £1750 at the time of order then legally it's your dealer's problem not yours. Been in a sort of similar situation myself on one car I bought which I resolved by suggesting they buy me out of the contract we signed. ( in the form of an additional discount ).

What a rotten experience. Wouldn't blame you for never considering Toyota again.

This subject has come up before.  Where does it say on their website that you cannot pay off a PCP early?

Not going to repeat myself but people should understand the clear difference between cancelling a PCP and settling a PCP.

I'm kinda surprised too at times, especially the ones who dont even want to see any ID or whatnot, since I'm a male in my 30s but look like in my 20s. But maybe I only want to test drive boring old man cars so they know my soul is old 😄

Just as an aside to this, when I bought my Ford puma back in 2020, I still owed £1500 on ford finance, ( not pcp) , the dealer said they would pay it off, obviously they would then add this into the cost of the new financing, well they didn’t, and they admitted it was their fault and would stand the extra cost, which they did, I cancelled my dd with ford and, shortly after, received a letter from them basically asking what’s going on, I rang them and explained the details, passing all the salespersons name and numbers ect, got a letter a couple of weeks later saying I owed no more on the finance, I then paid the existing finance on my new car and owed Ford nothing, so, sometimes the dealer does screw up in the customers favour, won’t have the same issues when I get my cross, as I’m buying outright, ( it’s sat at zebrugge btw),

Dacia did this to me, I got approved on finance for a Dacia Jogger on Pre-Order March 2022, when I went to pick it up in October 2022 they re-ran the finance application and I got declined (recently moved house and they ran my old address, which is why I'm convinced it failed). I was baffled why they needed to re-run the finance. But it meant I then had 2 hard checks on my file, no car and no way to get finance on another car so I had to wait 6 months for it to clear off my file before I could try again. Suffice to say I wasn't going for Dacia again, hence, hello Toyota 🙂

We were allowed two test drives unaccompanied by Stoneacre Newcastle when we were checking it out in December 21. Very good.

Exactly the same with us. We went for an unaccompanied test drive at Stoneacre Gateshead and bought our Yaris from them. I fact, I was unaccompanied on the test drive for my C-HR too (from another dealer). I must have an honest looking face 😁

Hi Ron

I understand the difference between cancelling and settling quite clearly - what I don't appreciate is people assuming that I don't.

Having re-checked it says that the Finance Deposit Allowance is returnable if the agreement is cancelled - my mistake for stating that it applied to settling early. I am not sure why the salesman said this was the case if it is not (unless the Dealer foots the Allowance) - anyone clarify this?

The dealer gets a commission for selling the PCP agreement, if the PCP is settled with in say 6 months of taking it out they lose their commission.

I don’t think there is a hard and fast rule about how it’s applied, it depends on the state of the market and how sales are going.

As long as you tell them upfront you intend to pay it off, I don't see an issue.

Below is a clip from Mazda’s site.
