Sorry if this has been asked before but I can't find out if the E10 petrol is safe to use. Does anyone know?

I have a Japanese import 1998 liteace noah MPV.

Thanks in advance ☺

Well do you have the owner’s manual, E10 is octane 95 and E5 super unleaded is Octane 97 so if you’ve got the manual look it up

No don't have the manual unfortunately

You haven't indicated which engine. As far as I'm aware Toyota have only looked at those models which were official imports into Europe from 1998.

Compatibility doesn't have anything to do with the octane - it is the percentage of ethanol.

Used in an incompatible engine, short term it may cause pre-detonation and/or poor starting

If you use E10 in a non-compatible car over a long period of time, it may well cause lasting damage to the engine. Bioethanol has corrosive properties and Department for Transport (DfT) research suggests it can damage hoses, seals and plastics in engines that aren’t compatible. It may also harm fuel pumps and carburettors.

Super unleaded will remain E5, so I would use that.
