I bought this one when I bought my Corolla HB in June 2020. Good price and fitted by the dealer. Starts up when I power on the car, off when I turn off the power. It can also be set to power on if the car gets a knock, for instance, when parked. I don't have that enabled.

Neat device, does its job, worthwhile especially at time of buying the car and getting it fitted, ready to go when you collect your new car.

That is the Nextbase 380GW.  Had I known what my dealer planned to fit I would have opted for 380GWX which covers the rear as well.  Wiring will be more complicated so will cost more.

As a camera it is very good as it records your speed.  Played back via a computer you can also see G loads and map display. There are other bells and whistles but these are the most important.

380GWX is generally offered @ c £350 - I was offered the "Duo View" (or "Dual View") which is the dual camera unit with a front and a rear facing camera in the same unit. I queried and had the 380GWX supplied and fitted front and rear for same £350. Its more discrete than some of the cameras with screens and does a reasonable job. It is also supplied with memory card, backup/parking Battery and hardwire kit.

Were you not given the 'advert' for their 380GWX dash cam offer during the ordering process @ £350?  A friend of mine opted for an integrated front/rear unit with screen purely because he likes to see a physical screen confirming it is actually on.

No, not offered, but I have now enquired, so will let you know.

My 1.8 TS came with a dealer fit 380GW. It works very well, but above 50mph the only thing you can hear on the recordings is road roar!  Originally, I didn't have the parking bit enabled, but someone hit the car, so now it is! Stable door......... The only downside is that you need to delete the recordings regularly as it fills up the SD card with protected files triggered by opening the boot or shutting the car door.

Rambler, no simply offered the dash cam, the same as on the demonstrator.

Rab, good point, I had wondered why I had so many protected files.  That could well be why they recommend reformatting every couple of weeks which will delete the protected files.

However I had a separate rear cam which would frequently stop as it did not overwrite old files.  Nextbase asked for a picture of both sides of the card (to prove I had a Nextbase SD card.  They sent me a new one and I have not had to reformat since.

Incidentally there are complaints that it is very difficult to access the 380 using the App.  Mine was installed in March 20.  I checked the firmware version and then updated by two versions.  Not had a problem since.

Agreed. Definitely pays to read the full operating manual for the dash cam. However, all Toyota owners will be used to that!

Is it a simple process to fit these? I’d like to do the same and fit myself.

Street Hawk, that depends.  Put it this way, my garage avoided an obvious power connection as it blew fuses.  They then picked a second cable but didn't realise it was not a permanent switched live and only active when the circuit was energised, such a wipers or lights.

At least you will be able to take your time with routing.

Thanks Roy, I’ve had a quick look on YouTube and doesn’t look too complicated. Like you say above , selecting the appropriate power feed on the fuse box looks like the most important part.
