Increased drag with roof bars?

Hey all,

would having roof bars increase fuel consumption on the motorway? Negotiated roof bars with the order of 2.0 TS. Don’t feel like taking them on/off every time I need to use them to haul my bike. Bike carrier is easy to attach/take off, so that won’t be on permanently

I know theoretically mpg would suffer but wondering if anyone has any real world stats

Driving around with just the roof bars you will not notice much difference in mpg or drag. The time you notice the difference if bike racks or roof box is fitted as well. But the only thing might get is noise from the bars whist driving.
