What tyres do people use when replacing old ones.

With me only just getting the car it will be a while before I need any new tyres but I did wonder.

I won't be putting on winter tyres and mine is 2WD do people replace like for like or seek out a different type.

Would like to know what everyone uses.

Just incase anyone wonders the tyre as standard on the September Plate Rav4 Excel is :- Toyo Proxes R46A 225/55/r19 99v

This is a question that comes up regularly and whilst I’m still running the OEM tyres I will very likely change to Michelin CrossClimates.  I’ve used them on a number of cars and the are a great all round tyre, summer/winter and I especially like the cold/wet weather performance which is something we get a lot of in the UK.

I’d shop around and see what’s on offer. As there is a Costco within 20 miles and we are members I usually go to them when they have a £100 off offer on 4 tyres. But, I’ve also bought on line and had them fitted at home by a mobile fitter.

I refused to take delivery on the standard tyres and had the dealer fit Cross Climates (actually any decent all season tyre but they turned out to be Cross Climates) before I picked-up the car. The RAV sits very well on Cross Climates. Other premium all season tyres are available ...

I really can't understand why Toyota doesn't fit all season tyres as standard. If you are doing high mileages, separate summer and winter tyres makes some sense; running summer tyres in winter just doesn't.

Got the Toyo tyres on mine as well.I always lean towards putting the same tyres back on unless I have not been happy with the originals for whatever reason.
Trouble is that you try something else and you aren’t happy then it can be a very expensive mistake.

You pays your money and takes your chances.

What I would be very interested to know is what sort of mileage people are getting out of their tyres.
A. Owners of 4 wheel drive.

B. Owners of 2 wheel drive

I haven't done enough miles on my 4.5 to know yet, but RAV4s tend to be quite gentle on tyres - at least as driven by me. My 4.3 and 4.4 would get around 50k miles from a set of tyres assuming that they are sensibly rotated - and that without running them down to the limit.

I don't know about RAV2s ... 😉

My local Toyota Dealer will match any local price on tyres.  So its worth checking with your local Toyota Dealer.

December 2019 I got a cracking deal on two news tyres. Obviously worth a shout.
