Drove down to my meeting today 4 hours used android auto (driving back on toyota sat nav after messing around with a setting Thursday so will let everyone know how I get on).

What confused me though...

When I got into the car it said I had ..

Range 537

Miles car has done 461

I knew it was 230 to location

So I expected with taking it easy it would read on arrival

Range - 537-230=307 but it shows 248!!! I was expecting it to be higher than 302 with electric mode so I'm a bit confused with what's happened

Miles car has done has went from

461 to 691 which Is the 230 spot on.

So I am thinking I'm going to just about scrape home now but wondered why the range was so far out... my old kuga was normally spot on.

I was raging as well as my mpg which was at 52 is now 48 🤣

Craig, you need to update your profile to make it clear which RAV you have ...

... assuming a HEV rather than a PHEV, then potting around near to home you'll get pretty good fuel economy - you claim 52 mpg above.

Range is a simple estimation (aka guess) based on the amount of fuel in your tank and your current / recent fuel economy. So when you set out it guessed that you'd continue at 52 mpg for about 537 miles.

But you didn't. Instead, you hared off down the motorway - I'm assuming motorway speeds here - and promptly dropped the economy to 45 / 46 mpg - that's about what you'll get at motorway speeds since the petrol engine now has to do quite a lot of the work. So, at the end of the journey when it guesses the range again it's going to use the new and lower recent fuel economy figure - and the expected range drops accordingly.

Stick to 55 mph on the way home and you'll make it easily ... 😉

Cheers mate didn't spot that in profile !

Hahaha! That explains it !

55mph brilliant saying that I'm using toyota sat nav to get home to test it so from Manchester to paisley might take me via London so I'm screwed regardless

Yeah, there's a reason why EV drivers call the range thing a GOM, or Guess-o-meter

I mostly ignore it and use the trip counter; I know roughly how far the car can go on a tank, and just make a point not to go too far into that before refueling!
