Hi all, my beloved mk2 d4d (3dr, rear seats removed, chipped - great fun) has a collapsing ignition barrel, making it difficult to operate. I'm looking for any advice and tips on fixing/replacing etc.

A 2004 Yaris would be a later Mk1, Mk2 Was 2005 on which do you have? 

Does your chassis # start VN or JT?

Are you sure its the barrel and not the ignition switch that's falling apart ? Have you tried a spare key, the key may be badly worn ?

2004 yaris would make it a facelift Mk1

I'll have to have a look at the V5, got it sorted though, watched a few You Tube tutorials on old Toyotas and got the basics. Stripped the column cowls, popped the barrel out of the lock, stripped it, removed worn shim (the first one) cleaned, lubed, reassembled, refitted and working perfectly now.

I think I may have a facelift Mk1, it's got the later headlights....

Ah-ha! I assumed it was a MK2 because of the headlights!

Its all sorted now, keys perfect, a  shim in the lock barrel worn and now removed, all back together and working perfectly, and if it happens again I'll be able to strip, rebuild and refit in well under an hour, so very pleased with that.
