Having owned  2 RAV4 mark 4s thought there were 2 buttons which is confirmed in the manual.

Edit. Just had a thought does the model with unpowered tailgate only have one button.

Mine was an Icon - powered tailgate but no smart entry system, so just the one button! 🙂

Done. Thanks Philip. Change it before. Not tried it to see if it has taken effect but will this week.

As I said this caught me out a few times when I got the car and frankly I didn’t think about it just pressed the button. The first time it failed to open it was dark and wet and I was not best pleased. However, the next morning I got on my knees and looked at the button and found it’s two sided nature and the boot opener/ door lock sections.

You know I never had that on a car. Not even something I think I'd even have come across if I bothered reading the 666666 page manual.

If you stop the car with all the doors locked put the brake on but do not put the car into park/ switch engine off all the doors are locked and the boot will not open. You can get out of the drivers door but all other doors and boot remain locked. Could this be the reason although it does not fit with your description

No it was in Park and engine off. This is what threw me. But after Philip's comment I checked the MyT settings on the web and shift to park unlock box was not ticked. Could have had something to do with it but I don't know.

I had an interesting and possibly related experience today. Parked at my destination - the dentist - engine off, used my 'phone to check-in, got out of the car and found when I went to pick up my coat from the back seat that the rear door was locked!

Mine is configured with:

  • Speed linked door locking function - All doors are automatically locked when vehicle speed is approximately 20 km/h (12mph) or higher.
  • Driver’s door linked door unlocking function - All doors are automatically unlocked when driver’s door is opened within approximately 45 seconds after  turning the power switch off.

I believe that this is the default configuration. Note the "within approximately 45 seconds" limitation - if I'd got out 'straight away' the rear door (and the boot) would have been unlocked, but I spent more than 45 seconds messing about first so only the drivers door unlocked!

Is it possible that this is what happened Nick?

As far as I know my Prius does not have auto locking as I move off, I have to manually lock the door (one button to press). Come to get out, if I just open the driver door and get out all other doors are still locked. If I manually unlock all doors (one button press) all doors are unlocked then.

Could have been. I think the issue I've got is I dont understand all of the different interlock settings. I'll check and remove that as I think it'll confuse the hell out of me being a bit thick.
