Avensis d4d engine power issue

Hello to all of you from Norway.
I have a Avensis 04-05 2l d4d, With a cold engine it runs as it should, when it gets hot, not always but sometimes it loses all engine power, up to 3600rpm, and then it shoots off, soots something terrible, zero power under 3600rpm when the problem occurs, sometimes it holds reving it up and it works as it should again, nasty injector knocking when it has less power and soots a lot, no engine light or anything, does not use oil, no "blue smoke" or any noise in turbo, mileage around 360k KM, anyone who has run into similar problems?

Best regards

My money is on EGR

Ok when cold but soon as hitting operating temperature, it all goes wrong. Loss off power and smoke. Not every time either.

I had this not long after I picked the current T25 five years ago. Easy job and plenty of carb cleaner. Since then every couple of years it came off for a clean although this year I replaced with an aftermarket one off eBay (£60). Even after a clean you could still feel the valve sticking when operating temperature kicked in on the original one, hence the change.

Some people use brake cleaner on them instead.

I should mention that even when it was causing loss of power and soot problems, inside the valve was pretty clean and just carbon build up. I did find this surprising after seeing lots of EGR horror stories and picture's over the years (totally solid inside almost). This wasn't and was surprised by the difference after cleaning.

An easy job and it won't break the bank even if it didn't fix the issue

Given the mileage on your motor, I would probably replace it for the sake of £60.

Still £59.99 and works

Happy with aftermarket for mechanical type stuff, but would stick with Denso for elecs - MAF, MAP....
