Air con pump problem 2.0D4D 2014 Verso

I took my Verso out the mechanic recently as it had developed a bit of a rattle, I thought it was the starter motor but he has diagnosed the problem as being the Air con pump. Has anybody ever had a similar problem and done a pump delete or is it worth chancing a used pump ? If anyone has done a pump delete can they recommend the ideal belt required ? thanks
