Becoming a petrol head

Hi guys.

I've never been much of a petrol head, don't think I ever bought a car mag, but it seems I'm getting to be more of one in my old age (literally, I'm retired).

I have a 2001 Corolla 1600 VVT-i auto liftback that's done under 50k miles.

I had the exact same model but with much higher mileage that was scrapped after failing MOT bigtime and I'd liked it so much that I jumped at the chance to buy this one to replace it. (Had a Carina before that.)

The clear coat is lifting on the bonnet and there are paintwork issues and body filler elsewhere so I'm seriously considering getting it resprayed. I know this isn't the place to ask questions about the model, but given what I'm looking at doing and my lack of experience, are there any general issues I need to keep in mind?

Same any car of a certain age, look for suspension issues and corrosion issues. If the mileage is genuine then you will have a great motor.

Thanks Bernard. The way it drives, also not using up oil, I'm sure the mileage is right.
