My Yaris now has a home !

Today, I phoned the manager of the garage where I ordered my MY 21 Yaris Design, ordered 31/08 and had not received any notification.

He told me that the factory in Valenciennes had been closed until September and when it restarted was only running at 50% capacity. I was informed that this factory operates with "just in time" delivery of parts and only has 4 hours of parts in stock.

He also informed me that Toyota owns a semi-conductor factory in Thailand that had been closed because of Covid is now functioning normally, which means that the Valenciennes factory is now running at 100%, which will be good news for Yaris Cross orders, too.

I also wondered how customer orders fitted into the order stream, and he told they take precedence over built to stock orders from dealers.

Delivery of mine now expected in January.

The crazy thing is that I ordered my Corolla on the same day as you and it is now sat at the dealer waiting for me to collect it:rolleyes:

So the supply chain to Burnaston seems intact

Thanks for the update Peter. Highlights what is going on in the motor world.

@Bozz The Corolla is built in the UK, it ought to make things easier for you. I would have thought, me being in France, that I would have some, slight, advantage over UK customers for the Yaris. I don't think they will put mine on a boat, but you can never tell with new car logistics, the ways of delivery logistics are very mysterious !

@Catlover Yes, it does indeed highlight what is happening with automobiles, but with industry in general, too. Usefully Toyota possesses considerable clout. I didn't realise Toyota had their own semi conductor plant. It's ind of a surprise with everything outsourced to the limit!

I was also told that they had stopped notifications of Build process through the MyT app. That surprised me somewhat, but maybe it depended on the model. I'm pretty sure people with Yaris Cross orders, placed the same day as me were getting updates

I got updates through MyT but they were a bit 'hit and miss'

Lucky Fella Peter! No such luck with my Yaris Cross, ordered on the same day as you but for UK right hand drive. I too was unaware that Toyota had invested in their own semiconductor plant, though thinking about it, it makes absolute sense as they will be first in the queue for deliveries rather than being held to ransom by outside suppliers. Still shown as 'Processing' on the 'MyT' app, and as I live less than 20 miles from the Burnaston plant, had I ordered a UK made model, mine might be a bit nearer being built. I suppose that's the one negative with plants relying on 'Just-in-time' deliveries, it only takes one fail to deliver and the plant is stuffed. The last I heard from my dealer at the end of last month was that delivery had moved from November to December, though I wouldn't be surprised if it moves again to January because of Xmas holiday closures.......I'm sure it'll be worth it in the end.

FWIW - Toyota / Lexus are now starting to suffer supply chain problems as the employee vehicle purchase discount scheme is currently paused.

@forkingabout Pausing the employee purchase scheme ? That's unusual, it's a way of getting recent low mileage cars onto the 2nd hand market, some makers (Renault & Peugeot, in France, at least) have dedicated websites for employees to sell on the cars.

Today was my first look at the MyT application, but if you log into the Toyota.co.uk website with the same credentials, you should get a bit more information about what's happening. In my case, it says that they are going to rub down, by hand , the body panels that will make up my car. OTOH, it hasn't moved to "build in progress", it's still at "Processing Order" in the MyT app, but in the French website it says "Production Planned".

Some years ago when our Son was in the motor trade and working for a large dealership group having Vauxhall agencies, he was able to enrol my Wife and our youngest Daughter in the company's 'Friends & Family' leasing scheme. It allowed us to have new Corsa's for £99 a month, only drawback was that you had no choice of colour or model spec, you got whatever they had in stock and they gave you only a few days notice when they wanted the car back and your next new car was available. In some cases, this was less than 3 months, and never more than 6 months so the company sites were able to maintain plenty of 'One Owner, Low Mileage' used vehicles. We did this for a couple of years until Son was 'Headhunted' by a Ferrari/Maserati dealership. It was certainly a nice cheap way to always be driving a new car!

I'll look into the Toyota.co.uk website Peter, thanks for the tip!

Had a quick look on Toyota.co.uk, but no more information available, still just 'Processing'. I too saw the bit about body panels being rubbed down by hand on the site, surprising really in the age of 'DA sanders'!

I ordered in early September a Design, and when I spoke to the dealer last week they said it was still showing delivery for end of November.

The employee purchase scheme is just a set discount on the new vehicle price, it works exactly the same like joe public walking in to a Toyota / Lexus dealer & ordering a new vehicle.

The vehicle also has to be kept for at least 12 months as part of the purchase scheme terms & conditions.

What do I do when my back does a funny turn ? I was just getting up from a seat and my back seized up. It's one of the pleasures of ageing (not) gracefully, so whilst I'm stuck on my back, I had a look to see if the status has changed on my Yaris.

I was very proud of buying a French car, but it looks like I'll be getting one of the first Czech built models. I have just seen that production is planned in the Kolin factory in the Czech Republic. Looks like my car is getting closer, even though it's at least 500km further away😉. The engines won't have as far to go to be installed.

In fact I was able to pull more information, albeit provisional, out of the application using this method outlined by the Luca @Sevenarth in the post linked here :-

Status diving

Estimated delivery date by dealer : 05/01/2022

Estimated delivery date to the Oanning (Valenciennes) distribution centre 05/12/2021

It looks like my car will be built sometime in November.

Things are looking up, but I don't think it will be the new car for Christmas. The status has been updated to "Build in Progress". More status diving shows no change in estimated shipping and arrival dates

I thought I wouldn't get the car for Christmas, but, lo and behold it arrived at the dealers this morning. It's still showing as in transit on My T / My Toyota, but I think I believe the dealer 🤔 !

Taking delivery tomorrow, but they have to put the winter tyres on.

The app said the same for ours, had phone call from dealer several days before the app said it had arrived. Dealer also said he had 5 or 6 people trying to buy it before we collected last Thursday. Hope you get to enjoy yours soon.

Collection arranged for tomorrow, late in the day. I think the Yaris Cross is more coveted, so I think I'll be OK.

Yep, received the text msg with the registration number, too !

This is the first car, I've ordered to spec, not that there was a lot of leeway for options, just the parking sensors and blind spot monitors, plus some stuff the dealer would fit. When I ordered it, I thought I would have the car in a few weeks, but I had to have the latest "stuff". I've bought new cars before, but generally they've been in stock or in stock not far away.

Still, the wait has given me a lot of time to understand just what hybrid means, now I'll get to experience it first hand. I am also intrigued by the driving assistance gadgets, that I hope are useful and not annoying.
