Steering wheel controls

Moving on to another project but have come to a stop with this one

Looking at wheel controls, specifically illumination, i have not yet found a set of controls that are backlit that are the same

So time to pull a set of controls apart, as you can see they have pcb locations for the 6 resistors and 3 leds (R1-6 and LED 1-3) the main switch body has the cutouts, but the switch cap are opaque black plastic

 

Right hand Phone controls, again it has the locations on the PCB

 

Right hand menu controls there are 2 types this is the type with  the single button for Trip/Return, as you can see it's a membrane type key pad with no led allocation

I picked up a set of Mk2 Auris backlit controls for comparison - verdict they are very different in design the key cap being made of a translucent white plastic and painted/coated in a black paint, it looks like the covering is laser etched/engraved for the lettering/icons

After many hours of googling, i can not find any reference to the back lit version or anything resembling the Yaris/Vitz controls that are back lit, even tho the pcb's are designed for illumination

Could you not apply a feed and check for power at each of the led locators? Or have i missed the point?

Adding the LED's and resistors isn't a problem i have all sorts of LEDs on the shelf, but the button caps them self are a solid black plastic with the decals on them as such they do not pass any light through
