Delays in getting V5 from DVLA

Most of us are probably aware of the delays in getting new licences etc from the DVLA. However I have now been waiting nearly 3 months for my V5 document from them for the used Corolla I purchased from a main dealer in late July. I have tried to call the DVLA - just going to recorded message - I have tried the online chat - and it just sends you to a useless chat bot - and then disconnects.  I have emailed them 2 weeks ago with no response. I have now contacted the dealer.
Does anyone else on here have recent experience of getting your V5 issued?

Surprised. Bought my latest, Auris Design 2018 on Wednesday 13th a few days ago. Received V5 to day 16th.

It was all done online the dealer.

DVLA online enquires are being turned around a lot faster then postal enquiries.

With the DVLA wherever you can, do it online.

My medically restricted licence renewal was a 25 day turnaround as I did it online.

A friend of mine is in the progress of renewing his photocard licence - 3 months & still counting as he posted his - DVLA has received it, not processed it yet.

Another friend bought a car recently, new V5 showed up within a week as the dealer did it online.

Apparently there has been a lot of covid related problems incur offices. Staff not too happy at lack of covid precautions, therefore kept away. Can’t blame them really.

I guess letters need more handling and if many staff are WFH mail would need to be forwarded to them.  My 5-year (?) renewal took less than a week after an online application.  I would guess no one checked that I returned the old card.

Reminds me, must check HMRC for my refund.

Looks like I need to apply for a replacement V5 as the dealer was supposed to do it online. Unfortunately I didn't purchase the car from my trusted local Toyota dealer as they didn't have the car I wanted. The Toyota dealer I did buy it from was most unimpressive at the end of the day, so maybe I'm not too surprised to have this problem. Unfortunately the replacement V5 procedure seems to be via paper form only!

You can apply for a replacement V5C online: https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-log-book

If you start the process, the first question includes if you have not received your log book.

Will cost you £25 though.

Unfortunately I must be the registered keeper to apply online. If the dealer hasn't done his job (as I suspect), then DVLA won't have me down as the registered keeper. Then I have to apply by post using the V62 form - but at least there is no charge. I did try the online replacement method as you suggest, however it refuses to continue as soon as I enter my reg number.

Presumably if they haven't applied online for change in keeper when you bought the car, they will still be on DVLA records as the keeper.  In which case I would write to the Dealer Principal of the dealership and highlight, if they haven't done the change in keeper online, that any speeding tickets, etc will go to them. See what their response is.

Good point Mike. Thanks. An e-mail has been sent to them. When I collected the car there was a list of errors including: promised paintwork jobs not being done on the car, a very poor pre-delivery valet (sticky sweets residue on the rear armrest and wood dust in all crevices in the car), significantly over-inflated tyres and the paid-for protection pack not being fitted at all. So not getting the V5 is no huge surprise. Shocking behaviour from a main dealer!

Got my Previa less than 2 months ago. My V5 took about 10 days to arrive. I did it online, I suspect its people posting documents to the DVLA  that are delayed.

The dealer “apparently” did it all on line. However we strongly believe that he did everything to process the sale and get us away - except the V5 - and then forgot to do the paperwork later. He hadn’t even checked the car over before we arrived for the collection - even though the dealership had well over over a week to get the jobs done.

So, just to wrap this up, the dealer just called me and did the online V5 change of owner procedure while I was on the 'phone. It looks like they had forgotten to do it - our suspicions are confirmed. I have just received an e-mail from the DVLA confirming the change of ownership has been registered. Only 11 weeks late - but better late than never I guess. I think the note reminding them that they were still the registered owner may have done the trick. Thank you Frostyballs!
