Has anyone had to replace TPMS/TPWS sensors?

Just wondered If anyone has had to replace their Tyre pressure sensors? and how long did the old ones last?

Also - did you use a main dealer and how much did it cost?

I had a faulty one when I bought my 2020 demonstrator - there was evidence of a puncture repair on the tyre with the faulty sensor but that might just have been a coincidence. Anyway it was replaced under warranty by the main dealer who said it wasn't a common problem.

Our Auris is 6 years old and the original tpms sensors are still working.

The proper Toyota ones are really stupidly expensive, but luckily they usually last around 10 years before the Battery gives out. You can change the Battery (It's just a lithium coin cell) but they've made it very difficult by filling the sensor with potting compound. Just run them until they stop working; No point in doing it proactively, just a waste of 4x£80+labour

The only other reason to replace them is if they get broken (Stems snapping due to careless tyre fitters is the most common one)

I don't understand why they don't just use a capacitor and a kinetic charger like you get in fancy watches and torches. Considering how much money they want for them...!

  • 4 weeks later...

I have a leak in one and Mr T quoted £180.

So I'll keep topping up the air and let the new owner cough up .
