I haven’t investigated further after the relay was added and the problem was “solved”. I’m convinced the issue is a defect output from the ECU or maybe a broken wire

MREL is a ground-side switch, so if you ground that pin it should turn on that relay

more than likely a dry joint internally or the relay has died
