Hi, quick question, does the paseo use the same brake pads as the Toyota MR2 1.6 16V (AW11) 1984 to 1990 & the Toyota COROLLA FWD & RWD 1.6GTi & 1.6GTi 16V 1987 to 1992

also i would quite like some drilled and groved disks any one know if i could use the ones of either of those cars or where i could get some from for the paseo?

grooved discs for the paseo aren't that hard to find but you'll need to get descent set of pads aswell to go with them

http://www.needforspeed.co.uk/ here does black diamond grooved and drilled discs for the paseo, and they do look pretty smart being all black.

the EBC discs in this site i wouldn't have thought had anything about them better than stock.

but i think people say summin about the black diamond grooved and drilled discs cracking, but it might have been another make so im not sure, they'll prolly be pretty safe,

As for the sizes of the brake pads, it sounds like you got it off a pack of pads at Halfords, so i woulda thought its pretty safe to say thats true, and if your buying pads at Halfords pay extra for the Ferodo ones.

However, though the pads my be the same this doesnt mean the discs will be the same, paseo discs are 254mm in diameter 18mm depth and 17mm width, as long as thats the same you should be alright.

I would personally just stick with stock and save up for a rear disc conversion

but dont the rear drums give more surface area and there for better braking,

pads are the same as most small toyotas but disks are different

they don't have more surface area as a lot of the area is redundant. Discs are far superior in all respects except the parking brake which i'll come to in a minute.

discs have superior cooling so you won't get brake fade. you can also vent them to cool them more, also bare in mind that the piston within a disc has a much larger surface area than a drum brake cylinder so you get a larger force acting on the brake.

the only problem with discs is the parking brake, brakes get invariably hot and this causes metal to expand, when you pull the handbrake on a drum car, the brake actually gets tighter because the drum shrinks.

On a disc braked car the disc shrinks so the brake gets looser. A lot of cars solve this by having a small drum brake within the disc but most new cars purely have the handbrake wired to the disc.

hope this helps mate.

have a nice day

PS I would certainly recommend black diamond. Their pads are crap though, i would go for Ferodo DS2000 or EBC Geenstuff

i would only put disks on the back if you had a bigger engine and most of the braking is done on the front any way.

Definitely same as AW11 mate

But I wouldn't worry about a rear disc conversion, I toyed with the idea but maybe in the future ;) Then its purely cosmetic. The car simply doesn't need it, go with EBC Greenstuff or something like and that's all you'll need

most the stuff done to the paseo is cosmetic. but i think its necessary if anyones thinking of turbo charging their paseo, well above about 150bhp anyway.

And hubs look like crap, painting them isnt that impressive.
