Remove Dog Guard!!

Please help before I buy a metal cutter or murder my partner 😡

06 plate Rav 4 with a genuine dog guard that I have spent two hours trying to remove. 
Please help as I can not release the spring loaded bars at the top to give me enough room to remove it!

As it is clearly dog proof that would suggest the need for thumbs. 

Different car, different type, but a counter intuitive technique. I had to push the guard towards the side I was undoing rather than pull the attachment.  This reduced the tension and enabled me to unseat it. 

And an obvious question, have you tried Google?  Lots of hits including in this forum.

On the basis that 'removal' is 'simply' the reverse of installation would a copy of the instructions help?

It is a bit fiddly but certainly doable, I now manage to put it in/take out in a few moments (only use the guard as a luggage compartment separator on my travels to Europe when the boot is filled to the roof 😂). You need to push both sides in after disengaging them from the narrow part of the plastic bracket and by twisting and turning them and the guard simultaneously you'd be able to catch just the right position for it to come out. Deep breath and a bit of patience is definitely needed. Good luck!

Pull the carpet out, lift at the bottom and push/pull forward and slide the top forward, so both parts are out of the key way, it should then be able to be released

I’ve given up today but will try all the techniques mentioned and hopefully with a bit of patience it will come out! 
If it does don’t think it will be going back in 🤣
