Quick Question......

RIm in the process of sourcing a 2 and due to the lack of choice here in NI im going to England sometime over the next 2 weeks to get one hopefully, but, here's my question...

I just had a heated debate with a local used dealer about the cars, I said I was ideally after a UK spec, GT-TBar, in either white or black.

His reply was they never sold T-Bars in the UK direct from Toyota main dealers and every Tbar in the UK is an import originally!!! Needless to say I argued blind that they were sold as I can get a quote from elephant for a Uk GT-Tbar. Am I right or did i just make a fool of myself?

Erm .. Toyota UK sold 3 cars ..

The Coupe (just for the first year) .. and the GTi-16 (cloth and sunroof) and the GTi-16 T-Bar (leather and t-bar) ..

But they "ALL" came from Japan if you wanna play semantics ..

I know they all originally arrived on a big boat probably built in the Hyundai shipyard, but I was right to say that they would have been first registered in the UK then?

This guy was basically going against what Ive been told by everyone. He said they are overpriced in the UK coz they are all imports and they originally came through NI for import loophole reasons. And that I would have difficulty in finding one for less then 3k in the UK for a 91/92 Tbar.

Thats nonsense as far as im concerned!! I must have looked at every 2 for sale on the AT website for the past 3 weeks now and there are far more to choose from at better prices than on offer here in NI.

I think this guy was just wanting the business as he has arranged for me to view onw he has just sold to a friend. Its a 91GT, 97k miles, cloth, blue, no history or books and he wants £2600!! Bit steep me finks.

He also said something about when Im looking at them to hold the revs at 2k and listen to a slight knocking as the small end bearings are prone to going but the big end bearings are always fine???

Some dealers just don't have a clue. Both the MKI and MKII MR2s were available as official UK models in T-Bar form. All UK T-Bars have full leather interior.

He's confused the T-bar with the Turbo. It was the Turbo that was never sold in the UK, thus all turbo’s are imports, (be they T-bar or otherwise). Like you said though, loads of NA T-bar UK speck cars in the country.
